Was playing in the fourball better ball knockout this morning, but we were all putting out anyway because of the local 'money game'.

I needed to shoot +16 to get my HC down to 21. On the 17th tee, I was +13, and somehow shot a quardruple bogey, then a bogey. By the time HC adjustments were taken into account, I missed it by one shot.

That said, I was pleaswed that for the first time, I had several attempts during the round, where I was trying and succeeding in shaping the ball both ways. Whilst I usually try to hit the draw from the 7th tee, I hit two really nicely shaped shots both times round.

In addtition, on the 5th, I was stuck behind a tree, and realised a nice fade, would clear it, so hit a really sweet shot that faded exactly as I saw it. Unfortunately, I failed to take account of the left to right slope of the fariway and the bunker on the right hand side. Hey ho...

The match was nip and tuck all the way round - in fact, no one won a hole til the 10th. We were all square off the 19th, so went up the 1st again, and I had a shot.

My partner was well right, and so was one of the opposition. The other oppo was on the fairway but quite short, and I was well up, but in the right rough - again, with a tree blocking me.

Being bold, knowing I had a shot on this hole, I took my 4H, and faded it perfectly round the tree, and into (and through) the green. The club selection wasn't great, but I was delighted with the shot. One oppo flubbed his next shot, and then the other oppo did as well. The 1st oppo pulled his third well left, and the other pushed his well right. Both were on the green for four.

My partner also got on the green for 3. My ball was wedged up the steep bank in a grotty lie, and I did well with the 8I chip to get within 6 feet, putting me there for 3 nett 2.

I played well, putted dreadfully, and just missed out on my personal target, but I was really pleased to win from a shot that was ambititous and successful.

1st pro lesson tomorrow. Good times
