During the week I had settled on a plan for the round, following on some advice from VP, in that, where possible, I was going to shoot at the 150m markers from the tee.
This plan meant 4I from the 1st tee and my tee shot found the fairway and finished 152m from the green. Yes, only 2m from the 150m marker... Slightly pulled my 7I 2nd and missed the green pin high left, but, wouldn't get up and down, carding a tap in bogey 5. Plan adhered to, no damage done.
3W from the 2nd tee was pulled left into the tree line, no real shot, tried to fashion a hooky 3I to advance the ball as best I could, finishing in the fairway, about 50m away. When I badly duffed the attempt at the pitch for my 3rd it was then on for 4 nowhere close and a 2 putt double bogey 6. Not real happy.
Plan goes out the window at this point, taking driver on the par 5 3rd and in attempting to rip one out there, only managed to again pull it straight left into the tree line. Again no shot, again fashion a hooky 3I which this time doesn't turn and finishes in the RH tree line just outside the 150m marker. Fadey 6I is a beaut, starts left, turns onto the pin beautifully, finishing 6 feet short of the front edge of the green. Unfortunately, again fail to get up and down for par and another 2 putt bogey goes onto the card.
Missed the green pin high right on the par 3 4th and again failed to get up and down for my 3rd 2 putt bogey in 4 holes.
More of the same on the par 4 5th. Again missed a fairway, again forced to recover, then found the putting surface for 3 and again 2 putted for bogey 5.
Took driver from the tee on the short par 4 6th and struck it well. Rifle straight and finding the putting surface. Would again 2 putt, this time for birdie.
Pulled the driver left into the tree line again on the par 5 7th, but, on arriving at my ball, found I was in the clear amongst the trees and though some way back, the 3W across the corner was beautifully struck and would find the fairway only some 5m from the front edge. Unfortunately, again I would fail to get up and down and a 2 putt par 5 results.
Tee shot on the par 3 8th is a gem, on the flag the hole trip, pitches and stops, apparently very close. On arrival at the green, it's 8 feet away, 6 inches outside the NTP marker, BUGGER, and would then leave the downhill breaking birdie attempt short in the jaws and a 2 putt par 3 goes onto the card.
Driver again on the longish par 4 9th splits both the fairway and 150m markers and I am disappointed to leave my 2nd 5m short of the green. Didn't strike that one well at all. Chipped on, again nowhere close, and again 2 putted for a bogey 5.
9 2 putts greens for a 6 over the card 42 front 9. Headed to the 10th tee thinking if I could keep the ball on the fairway and make a few putts around the back, I could post a pretty good number.
How many times have I told myself not to get too far ahead of myself......

Suffice to say, some anger fuelled poor decisons, and throwing in my Club President and his mobile phone, I would add a very poor back 9 51 off the bat, giving me a 21 over the card 93, net 80 for the day.
The back 9 would include 2 quads, a triple and a double. Meaning 21 over the card for the round, 15 of which in 5 holes.
Only one hole of note around the back.
The par 4 14th would see me hole my first putt of any length at all. Having not made one all day, I would hole a 35 footer, with 8 feet of break, here for an unexpected par 4.
Go Figure...
So it was a net 80 for me and this sees me start round 2 13 strokes off the pace in the net category and 19 strokes off the pace in the gross.
It's not lights out yet, but I do need to shoot something VERY good this week...

Cheers
