Today’s round was my first match day as Club Captain & despite arriving at the Club early, I didn’t find any time to hit some practice balls before my allotted tee time.

And didn’t it show… Probably my worst ball striking day this year.

After almost cold topping my opening tee shot, would go on to miss all but 5 fairways and only hit 2 GIR. Only hit 3, maybe 4 solid shots that I was happy with during my round.

Thankfully, my short game was on song…

25 putts included 11 1 putt greens and NO 3 putts.

Would card a second consecutive 85 off the stick for a net 73 and given how poorly I played tee to green, I was quite surprised when sitting down after the last to tote up the scores.

So, the upshot from this is that another golfing “penny” has dropped for me this week. I actually do have a short game and one day soon, when I manage to get both my ball striking and my short game to the course on the same day, I am confident I will shoot something very low…

After the round, as new Club Captain, I was to run the presentations for the day’s round. It is fair to say, that despite being quite comfortable with my abilities in the arena of public speaking, I was very nervous.

Once it was all over, and I had given a couple of the guys a ball too many, and forgotten to announce the over 50’s winner (not such a problem, given he also won his grade) I settled back to enjoy a frothy or 2 with the boys.

This is what it’s all about for me and there’s always next week…
