  • Medinah Number 3

I was recently afforded the opportunity to play this course. It is the site of the upcoming PGA of America Tournament. The course plays long and most holes are lined with enormous oaks/hickorys from tee to green.

The green were a little on the slow side (8 to 9 stimp), as they are nurturing the greens for the upcoming tournament. They had many areas under the trees roped off as ground under repair as they planted seed/sod to try to grow more rough in the areas around the trees. This is somewhat difficult as the shading of the trees stunts grass growth.

The 17th green has been moved back to its original location on the edge of Lake Kalidjah. The green is much flatter than it was when they last had the U.S. Open on the course.

They have built some new tees to lengthen the course somewhat. The member that I played with stated that the course would play nearly 7,700 yards for the tournament.

We played from the Silver Tees which play to around 7,100 yards with a slope of 147. I shot 89 (handicap index currently 10.5), so I didn't feel too bad about my round.

I don't think Medinah will play as tough as Wingfoot just did. PGA Tournament normally isn't set up as tough. Predict the winner to shoot -10 over 4 days. We shall see.
