Re: getting rid of bad habbits

I really must get my eyes tested again.

I've been waiting all day for Gandalf to respond to this thread then I realised it said "habbits" not "hobbits"

Why do you think a closed stance is bad for you? I would suggest that if it's comfortable and works you stick with it.

        Hey Golfinguy:

Yes, I agree with Brian that it is perfectly ok to play with a slightly closed stance if this is allowing you to hit a controlled draw. Ben Hogan had his feet aligned closed for his driver although his hips were square and shoulders slightly open. Unusual, but cleary this worked for perhaps the best pure striker of the ball ever to play the game....especially considering the equipment of his era.

Todays pros also align their stances to accomodate the type of shot they are playing. It is not uncommon for them to play longer clubs with the slightly closed position.

As with most things golf induced, the extremes are not recommended. As long as you use a consistent routine to line up including your clubface and body positions you should be OK. For certain, a slightly closed stance can help you swing slightly inside out and hit that pretty little draw. Todays longer shafted drivers almost require this position to effectively square the face at impact.

Personally, I set up a bit closed for my driver and move progressively open as the clubs move up in loft. With my wedges for example, I will be slightly open to the target.

        Best of luck,
        Tim S.

You could do like Nick Price and Charles Howell III. When you walk up to address the ball stand with your feet together and your clubface aimed at your target. From there step straight back (away from the target) with your back foot.
