Hey Ed! Any more relaxed and you would be horizontal, I like it.
Problem with this UTUBE it is difficult to stop or rewind the video but from what I could see it looks a nice relaxed free flowing swing, could not see the results but I expect they were OK.
Thanks, Brian. I haven't taped my swing for a long
time and appreciate the feedback. Relaxed is good, but
I think maybe a little too much extraneous movement
there.
The camera was 15 frames per second; not exactly
lending itself to analysis. I couldn't get the GTO upload to
take, so the link will soon disappear into the archives.
Can you see me struggling a bit to get the club back to
the slot. Never really getting there. Result is a little quick
down and not so high a finish as I would like to see. The
balls were on target but on the short side.

Thanks, again, for viewing and commenting.
Ed,
I can see what you mean now that you mention it. I would suggest trying to get a little more extension down the line on the follow through, this will keep you down through impact then bring the club up higher over your left shoulder.
For a drill, try stopping in the follow through and trying to get your arms extended straight out with the club pointing to target, clubface pointing straight up and down, belt buckle a little left of target.
Awesomely casual (meant in a good way!) - loved the practice swing in particular It's very hard to tell from the camera angle, but is your stance a little open?
Good eye, Bulldog. Thanks for
looking and good eye on that.
As I remarked to Brian, I can
see myself struggling a little to
get the club back. Yes, the stance is
open and that's a 6 iron, so it
need not be. That just could be
what is restricting the back swing.
On the practice swing, it doesn't matter
(you don't see it happening) because
I'm basically more upright.
Tomorrow, first thing after Am meetings,
I am going to get some balls and get
to that point.
Brian's comment was thoughtful and on
point, and yes, I make and have made an
effort to follow through just as he
has suggested. Nevertheless, when I
fail to get it back, my follow through
almost always suffers. In fact, in the
first swing you can spot a bit of an
over the top move on the first move
down. See the divot go left.
I could comment on that casual swing.
What you are seeing is a reconstituted
(not reformed) golf gambler's swing, one
which for years played the man, not the
game, until reaching the glass ceiling. I
knew at some time I had to adjust priorities
and did. It's a pressure proof swing that needs
to tighten up to address my current goals.
Even the gun chewing played a part --
positive self talk happening.
So thanks, Bulldog and Brian. I am quite
surprised, given the potential of online
instruction and that I have been hanging around
here for a few months, that the interest in
seeing someone's swing is so low in this group.
I think a video is worth a thousand words.
Maybe it's Ed Shaw they're not interested in.
Oh, well.
By the way, on my last outing the pro pointed
out I was aiming left. Hmmm.. the search goes on.
CMays: Thank you for viewing and
commenting. OK, one, I don't know
enough to say what the problem is,
but, provided your connection is
up to speed, you should be able to quickly
link to UTube, the pic should load
up in under three seconds, and the
display should kick in right away, with
full screen capability. The first thing to
ask is, is your display problem consistent
thru-out all web based multimedia or just
UTube? Maybe your machine is out dated.
You need minimum 1200 HZ CPU, min. 512
RAM and a decent video card and moinitor.
Quick and free route is: defrag, clean disc,
run Adaware, a virus scan and load the
latest browser if you don't already have it.
I suggest the latest Mozilla, I think it is 7.0.
or the latest Internet Explorer, which is
quite good. I assume you use at least
Windows 2000.
With respect to the video quality, that
is my fault. I shot this with a Nikon still
camera that allows a 40 sec movie clip,
produces a 10 mg file at 15 frames per
second, way too few FPS to allow analysis.
I am trying to figure out how to slo-mo
intentionally. Also, I use
Adobe Go-Live for an editing program and
just got into it for this project, so I am at
the start of the learning curve on that.
I wasn't trying to prod you or guilt you into
the thread, but really believe you guys are
on to something with remote analysis, with
the right product concept at the right time.
When you guys are ready, I can provide you
with a marketing plan that will start the cash
flow. The potential is quite high, though not as
great as remote medical diagnosis or computer
dating. So, look, I just want you good teachers
to keep your eyes on the potential for distance
learning and forget the minor disputes. Minor
disagreements never accomplish anything.
(Look, you guys are here to help golfers, not
to perfect diplomatic correspondence.) Being
able to look at any swing and make intelligent
observations is a marketable skill. If you guys
keep at it and go about it right (Maybe Moxie
has the tech expertise to solve the video
problems) you could really build a valuable
resource. If you hesitate, someone else will
do it. No one understands the suits who run the
golf biz and how they work better than
yourself, CMays.
Incidentally, there are bandwidth problems
inherent in the UTube model, that is, a site
for everybody, which preclude using high quality
video analysis like you get in a store front.
Those storefront operations have not turned
out to be especially profitable. Still, there is
no point looking at state of the art system
until you guys are ready for it. Like I say, when
you guys are ready, I have the business plan
I'll be happy to lay on you.
OK, now concerning my swing, suddenly your
typically detailed analysis, which in most cases
are hard for me to stay with, has taken on an
entirely new shine for me, and I am hanging on
every word because you are talking
about my swing.
Yes, I do sometimes pull and fade, without
warning and seemingly without cause. Pulling
the wedge is a chronic, and disturbing, event,
as is fading the driver into the rough.
I know I am swinging inside, and I can change
that. At hip high, my hands are almost behind
my butt. I can change that, but up to now
didn't have any motivation to change it, other
than noting Tigers position on the famous Nike
slo mo sequences. But, since you are saying
too much to the inside can result in a compensation
coming down, there's my motivation to work
with it. Brian also has made comments along
a similar kind, so there's a multiple input there. I don't think I want to get into changing planes,
but If I were to change planes, what change
is being suggested?
Also, I am not too sure what a one plane swing
is. I think I don't want anything to do with it. But
I will review the info on the one plane swing
this site is loaded with, anyway, on general
principle.
Now, as concerns this drill, I get the idea and
right away started to work with it. My belief is
that if you can swing a baseball bat, you can
swing a golf club, and as we know, any high school
girl can swing a baseball bat. I also picked up the
connection idea from Jimmy Ballard's book, and
stand by that. So, right away, I see the connection
breaking down with my way (inside) as opposed
to yours (the eight iron drill.) By now, you have
figured out that the reason I am taking it to the
inside is because, one, it seems easier to finish the
backswing from that position, and two, it discorages
my natrual fade.
Note that my "after the video lesson" sequence
was shot after coming from a long AM meeting
and hitting a couple of balls. I'm about 8" shy of
the slot, as you have seen.
So, I'll work on balance and backswing, put hand
action on the shelf for now, and stay loose for the
upcoming city two-ball next weekend.
Thanks again for the look and the help, CMays.
