  • Golfone ball position

With driver: lets talk ball position:
Ball even with left arm pit since right arm is already behind the ball, on downswing, the right side is free to fire from inside out.
    Agree.
Ball could even be more back if needed, say halfway between left armpit and center?

Yes, I agree with that. The ball can be played from the line of the left armpit for any shot as long as the right foot and sternum are moved suitably back or forwards.

This is quite in line with Hogan's teachings.

Yep I agree with that, a much better way to check ball position then using the feet. I see people all the time using an opened or closed stance without changing the ball position, they just don't catch the fact that when you pull the left foot back off the target line to open the stance, the ball position needs to move as well, same for closing the stance, ball needs to move back. They are usually amazed when I lay some clubs down and show them how far thier ball position has moved from what they thought was correct.

Thanks much. Once in awhile I find ball position creeping forward for driver-for me that's dangerous.
I must keep the ball more back with driver because that right elbow is at the hip and the club is lagging way behind. If the ball is too forward, big pushes.
If the swing comes to narrow, big pulls.
Ball position is critical for me.

I agree with what you are saying.

Two things I did when I studied the driver, many more but I will toss out these 2. Well maybe more.

From a square stance (50-50 weight) grip the driver in the left hand with it straight with the left arm and off the ground a few inches.

Now slide the weight to the right to see a change in the left shoulder and left hand which is now more behind the ball.

At address when I grip the driver the hands may be forward at that time, then I make my shift to the right placing the hands behind the ball and go into the backswing. Remember I am the big-boy.

2nd is to go back to the square stance and slowly slide the left foot back and look at the changes and then repeat with the right foot back.

I also stood on platforms and chairs and notice how Hogan's Plane changed.

          Interesting little article.

The shorter the person, the less the hip bend, the more rounded the swing, the further back the ball because the shorter person does not have the long arm levers to move the hands further out after impact as the tall person, thus looses hand speed and releases sooner. As a General Rule of Thumb.

A monkey with a short frame and long arms you would need to make some adjustments.

I work from my logo of the shirt with the driver and back towards the inside of the right foot for shorter irons. Right groin area.

I can change that which would take a few minutes to show, but would take me a long chapter to write about.
