I cannot seem to time my mid to short irons, accuracy is usually there, impact is sometimes towards the toe. Even when I do middle the shot, I have a high launch angle and lose a lot of distance. Even a well struck shot is not travelling as far as it should. I have absolutely no problem timing my driver, 1,2,3 irons(although the distance with the irons could be improved). I have been a 1 handicap player at RHGC. and maintain a comfortable 3 h'cap now. It is frustrating me no end, that when I put what feels like a good swing a p/w from 100m and it goes "clunk", right direction but 10 meters short. I reiterate, that the impact is more often towards the toe, this is not evident in longer clubs or woods. This may help answer my problem :- while doing a timing drill with a p/w, feet together, 3/4 swing, I can actually hit the ball further and with better timing than I can with a normal full swing. This problem is consistent with all irons except 1, 2 and 3, although I am experiencing some loss of distance.
Any suggestions please ? I did notice in an earlier post, that keeping the hands a little " quieter" can help with the launch angle, is it possible that I am overworking my hands and try to "hit" the ball too hard, as a compensation for loss of distance through poor timing ?
