Some of you might has noticed my signature change like 3 times in the last year. I am now on my 3rd driver in within a 12 month period. Well, I won a contest at work, $300 to spend on whatever I want. Figured what the heck, I could get $100 for my current MINT driver on eBay
The driver I have been using is the Cleveland HiBore with the Fujikura Stiff Silver Shaft, low kickpoint, 10.5* loft.
I decided to go all out and get fitted at Golf Galaxy on their Accusport Launch Monitor. Have hit on simulators, but never an actual launch monitor. I learned so much in 20 minutes and I wanted to share some things with those who MIGHT be looking at new drivers....
- My swing speed is ACTUALLY over 100 mph. When I have hit at Dick's Sporting goods and other golf shops, it usually had me at 90-95 mph on their monitors/simulators. The monitor spit back an average swing speed of 100.7 mph on 35 swings.
- Ball speed is more important that swing speed. I actually had a higher average club speed with the Cobra F-Series (101.2 mph) than the Cleveland XL (100.1), but the ball speed with the Cleveland was 148.7 mph vs the Cobra 145.3. I was 8 total yards longer with the Cleveland.
- Anything under a torque rating of 3 is WAY too stiff for me. Couldn't hit them for anything. Anything over 4 is WAY to whippy for me. Gotta find that sweet spot.
- Low kickpoint + higher loft = lots of backspin but straight shots. My backspin with my current driver over 5 swings was 3230 rpms. With the driver I decided to go with, I was at 2640 rpms.
I picked the Cleveland HiBore XL with the Fujikura Fit-On Red Tour Trajectory Shaft at 9.5* loft.
My carry increased by 17 yards. Total distance, based on their calculated roll, increased by 26 yards. Launch angle with my old driver was 15.1* and with my new driver I was at 12.9*. Both drivers averaged 3 yards left of center. So I am hitting just as straight but much longer.
I guess what I am trying to say is GET FITTED! I thought I had the right driver in my bag. But after awhile, I noticed how my drives just didnt seem to roll and just fell out of the sky. I didn't think my swing speed was consistenly fast enough to play a 9.5* stiff shaft club. But it is. I swing 100 mph normally. But before, I would tell people 90-95. 10 mph is a big difference.
I will be posting my "review" of the clubs I hit... Cleveland HiBore XL, Cobra F-Speed, Cobra Pro-X Series, TaylorMade Burner, SasQuatch Sumo 460.
