  • Hi from a real newbie

    Hi all from Florida,

I am a real newbie. Four years ago I started learn to swing a golf club for the first time. I worked at it about three months. I was 60 years old then. Hell of a time to start don't ya think? I had to give it up due to back pain. When I quit I had my 5 iron going about 185 yards. Had not yet learnd how to hit the woods though.

I did manage to play one nine hole executive course once. It darn near killed me. Then I found out I had heart blockages and went to surgury. Three stents and four years later I am giving it a try again.

On my third bucket of balls I am hitting my 5 iron about 160 yards (when making solid contact) and stinging the hell out of my hands with ****py hits the rest of the time. I am using a set of very old Wilson FG-17 muscle back irons and am having trouble finding the sweet spot. Shafts are too stiff too I think. They are TT Dynamic Gold S400.

I am thinking about picking up a clone of the Ben Hogan Edge clubs. In the past I tried Calloway Big Bertha and Ping irons but I could not get any decent feedback. They feel dead in my hands. I hope the Hogan clones are more forgiving than a muscleback but give some decent feedback too. Any thoughts?

Also, I wear a Large golf glove. Thoughts on grip size? The normal size seems way small for me.

    Thanks guys
