I'm still working on putting together more info for the fault matrix but one thing I really feel compelled to talk about is recognizing your true ball flight.
Far too many people just assume that since the ball goes right you much be swinging right. If the ball goes left you must be swinging left. That simply isn't true.
What makes the ball go left or right is the FACE.
If you want to know what your REAL problem is, hit 9 irons and see where the ball goes. If you hit the ball left consistently then you are shutting the face. If you hit the ball right then you are leaving the face open.
The reason you cannot do this exercise with longer clubs is because you can curve the ball far more easily with them. This makes it very deceptive when you start the ball 10 yards right of your target and hook it back. You may think you released the club perfectly when in fact you didn't. You swung too far to the right and didn't get the clubface closed enough!
PLEASE... spend at LEAST 50% of your driving range time hitting no higher than your 8 iron. It will teach you far more about your grip, release, and pivot.
