Yup, Stroke from the plates... Again...

Having just finished our 3 round Clubby's, this would be our 4th round of stroke play from the plates in 5 weeks. It was fair to say I was looking forward to the round being over well before it started. Not a good attitude to take with me on to the first tee really.

Went with an easy 3W off the tee and hit it well, though long and right-ish and into the tree line. If it was long enough, I would have a shot to the green. It wasn't. In attempting to take my medicine and punch back to the fairway, the ball caught a tree and went backwards and left, across the fairway and into the tree line the other side. From there it was a knock down 7I to somewhere adjacent to the green, a poor chip on and 2 putts for an opening double bogey 6.

Self fulfilling prophecy of sorts really...

From there it was bogey, par, bogey, par, par, 3 putt double bogey, par, bogey for a front side 7 over 43. Hadn't hit it all that well, scrambled reasonably well and that 3 putt aside, about on par with how I'd thought the round might go...

Really should stop writing the future of my rounds in my mind before I tee off...

The back 9 was disappointing, and I would add 3 more doubles to my card in shooting a 47. Each of the doubles resulting from a poor tee shot and a failed recovery attempt. And the rest of the 9 wasn't all that pretty either.

Apart from the last...

Got there just wanting to get that first post round frothy opened and underway, knowing the card was ugly and not caring if it got uglier, I took driver and smashed it. To almost my complete surprise the ball split the fairway. The hole was playing into the wind for a change and so I was still a way out. So it was 3W in and I hit that sweetly as well. It started left of the green and faded right back onto the left edge, its first hop pushed it a little further right towards the flag and it would roll out and finish apparently very close to the pin. On arrival it was pin high and 12 feet away.

Would then commit the cardinal golfing sin ... at least in my view it is, and I left an eagle putt 6 inches short in the heart of the hole. I had the line, I just didn't hit the putt well. So it was tap in birdie and a net 77 on the day.

As expected, the post round frothy was cold and very very enjoyable...

Next week is our Medallist of Medallists day and the only gong I am in line for is the Longest Drive. So it'll be a 5th round of stroke play from the plates in 6 weeks.

I'm really looking forward to that....

Thanks for reading.
Cheers
