The season is coming to a close, so I just went out to play and see how I would fair and not take it too seriously. With the way I have been playing, I have given up trying to break 90 and just make as good a shot as I can each time I approach the ball.
Today I was playing at the course I got my season best 92 on earlier in the year.
Today, I was still having problems off the tee. I hit quite a few hooks and got myself into trouble a lot.
I hit a bunch of really crisp irons. Very, very happy with that. The occasional shank reared it's ugly head at the worst possible times but I am really striking those irons with a lot of confidence.
My struggle today, as is usually the case on this course is on and around the greens. The pins were in some tough spots today and I just could not take advantage of good iron play, 3 putting from 15 feet on the 2nd after being GIR.
The greens are really tough some are fast as hell, miss by an inch and because of where the hole is, the ball runs a good 6 feet past (3 putt territory). Same with chips, I would pick my spot, hit the spot I was looking at and the ball would finish 10-15 feet past. Okay, fast greens then, I would then re-evaluate for that, hit my spot again and finish 10 feet short. Bizzare, I guess some of the greens are faster than others and playing more that this course (or not at all) would help.
Oh well. 103 is not astronomically bad and my HCP is 24.2 at the moment so I was +7 nett for the day.
If I could just rediscover what I was doing earlier in the year when I was hitting 9-11 fairways a round (and just missing on some), add that to my great irons and play on friendlier greens, I may one day break 90.
