    Re: Just ordered mine!

Spiffo, the biggest challenge for me is changing over from wood to iron to wood as they really are very different swings. I found it helped me enormously to actually play a round of golf on the driving range. By this i mean that i pretend that i'm standing on the 1st tee in my club and visualise the shot i would need to make, pick out my club and my target. Depending on my result, I would know approx how much distance i would be left to the pin, I would then select that club and play it. I played 18 holes last night in my head on the range and it helped me move from a wood to an iron to a chip on each consecutive shot. It certainly removes the boredom out of pummeling balls up the range.

Great tip mate. I must try that. I am usually quite bad for just pummelling ball after ball.

        Re: Just ordered mine!

I played a sunday game and I put the 3skills into practice on the golf course. My drives are definately improving but I really need to focus on the draw for each shot. When i don't it results in a leaked shot out to the right, but when I do it shapes beautifully with a draw into the middle of the fairway. I was about 50% with my wood on Sunday, but the ones that weren't accurate didn't get me into huge trouble.

My irons too were shaping nicely on some holes but whereas I used to have a pretty straight shot with my irons, and now i am trying to draw them, I am finding my accuracy to the greens a little worse that before. I know this just needs some adjustment on the driving range. Again, i was probably 50% on accuracy.

So all in all, the 3skills has helped me be more consistant and keep swing thoughts out of it. I defo need to hone my skills on having a more consistant strike which i'll do by getting to the driving range a couple of times a week. However, i've noticed that my 5-wood and my 19deg rescue club off the deck are shaky to say the least. Does anyone have advice how to play these clubs properly?

I bought a new putter on Saturday and that really did wonders for my putting. I've gone with a centre shaft putter and found it much easier to keep my line and strike the sweet spot. I had 28 putts this round compared with 35 the last couple of weeks, had no 3 putts and most of my first putts came within a whisker of dropping.

I ended up with 30 points on a rain-soaked miserable day. It would have been much much better except for the fact I landed in a bunker on 4 holes and had a Hamlet moment on each of them. I think i took 4 shots to get out of 2 of them and 2 shots for the other two......any advice on how to get out of deep wet greenside bunkers would be greatly appreciated.

If the sand is wet then the bounce on your sand iron will not get under the ball, causing you to hit it thin and probably into the bunker lip. Try using your lob wedge, keep the face open, it will cut under the compact sand and lift the ball out better. For more distance use your pitching wedge.

            Re: Just ordered mine!

With wet sand I like to play the Lob Wedge 60 degree back in my stance and just play a simple chip shot out.

However don't slow down at impact or you will fluff it.

Can't believe we are talking wet sand in July, I will want advice with dry sand one day.

            Ian.
