  • What has happened

Bought nail it. Started practicing the skills. All be it only for a week so far. But my striking has fallen to pieces? Before the book 80% of my shots were straight but I did not get the distance I wanted or should be getting from my clubs. Generally I was clubbing up 1 but some times two clubs to get the right distance. I could draw the ball a little.

Read the book and really liked everything about it. It all made sense. But started practicing SK1+2 which seemed to have a great effect. The contact felt crisp and the ball was going as far as before but with a lot less effort. (Have not started working SK3 yet). Went to the range tonight as can't stop thinking about the book and golf and can honestly say of 80 balls I was not happy with one strike and every one was different. I know you should not get hung up on swing thoughts but it was SK2 that was messing with my head. The more I thought about it the more I was analysing my club path to the inside which lead to swing thought which led to being mentaly and physically frozen. Could not even take the club back in the end as it just felt wrong. I fear I have suddenly got worse!

But I am not slating the book. I can see that it is all logical and makes complete sense. I am sure it is me getting hung up on hitting out to 1 o clock. Just looking really to see if anyone else got worse before getting better. Also getting worrried as I am playing the Belfry in 8 weeks and was playing at a level I enjoyed before. I hope I can sort this.

    Cheers

As the book infers, you need to practice/practice/practice.

I know you are right Brian. Its just hard to keep my head up (I mean mentally) sometimes when it feels like I have regressed.

I am going to keep at it. There is no doubt about that.

      Cheers.

stick at it and you should reap the rewards

i started 3skills just under 2 years ago on a 22 handicap im now only a hairs breadth off 14 with a few more shots to come off

practice diligently but more importantly correctly

SK2 seems to create problems with some people. I think the best way is to start with making half swings with something like a 9 iron, take the club back half way and with an easy tempo swing back through so that you collect the ball at the widest part of the arc. Make sure you are hitting that nail into the ball but nice and easy, do not force anything. As you build confidence then widen the arc bit by bit and keep that imagery of the clapping drill, then move on to a 7 iron for a while.

          I hope this helps you.
