I was playing in the rain the other day. I hit my 7wood, caught it slightly wrong and watched it disapear into the rough. When i got down there it took me 5 minutes to find my ball. All i could see was a piece of the ball the size of about a 5p. Is there any way to play a shot like that. I just chunked it into the greenside bunker!

There is a perfect way to play this shot...guarenteed to get it out perfectly every time...ready?

1) Bend at the knees...almost to the ground.
2) Bend at the waist, 90 degrees.
3) Let the arms hang straight down...they should almost be touching the ground now.
4) Use just your fingers to scoop the ball up.
5) Place in a towel and clean throughly.
5) Take your club length no closer to the hole for your free "Plugged lie" drop.

I don't know if I agree with 1 and 2.

If he bends at the knees almost to the ground, then bends at the waist 90 degrees he'll flop over and his head will get plugged in the mud. :lol:

As a matter of interest - and in this weather and with my accuracy it could help me - but can you actually get free relief if plugged in the rough? I thought it was just the fairway (or more accurately "closely mown" areas) through the green?

He said he was playing in the rain. That is usually "Lift-Clean-and Place".

I thought the knees bend joke was quite funny its just that if you're right on getting free relief then I've been missing the opportunity to use the rules to my advantage. Which would be a shame!

Casual water is always a free drop. Plugged lies (even in rough) are liftable during LCP... Plugged in a hazard is not applicable (traps, water...) However, Casual water in a hazard is a free drop (still within the hazard - if you cannot find a dry patch in the hazard, go home, becasue you shouldn't be playing in that much rain, unless you are from Scotland where they play in ANYTHING!!!)

The Scots I guess would drop outside at the cost of a 1 stroke penalty.

In closer inspection of the rules, it is a "winter" or "preferred lie" rule I sited. "Thrugh the Green" does only refer to the closely mown fairway, in normal conditions you do not get a drop from the plugged-rough.

In this case, you can either take an "unplayable lie" w/ 1 penalty, or go pound it out.

However, Casual water in a hazard is a free drop (still within the hazard - if you cannot find a dry patch in the hazard, go home, becasue you shouldn't be playing in that much rain, unless you are from Scotland where they play in ANYTHING!!!)
