  • Rescue wood

    Hi there

I'm thinking about buying a rescue wood to replace my long irons, any views to help me decide?

There are a lot of different very good rescue woods/utility clubs around. You just have to try them out and get whatever feels best for you.

Myself, I bought two Nickent 3DX IronWoods that I am very happy with. I have tried a lot of different clubs, including several name brand offerings, but I liked these the best.

I use a 21 degree Ben Hogan CFT Hybrid Iron/Wood which is really nice. It received good reviews also.

Refer to the latest Golf Digest. For what it's worth. You should go to the store and try some out. Most stores have a simulator.

I was lucky enough to get a good price on a TaylorMade Dual TP. While I'm not completely sold on the benefits of moveable weights (I think that it's psychological move than real) it's a fantastic club with a brilliant shaft. That said, do try the lesser known clubs as some are very good.

Have a look here for a comparison http://www.golfdigest.com/equipment/...sthybrids.html

i too struggled with long irons so i went out and purchased a cobra 4/R baffler its so easy to hit off the tee, from the fairway and its low C.O.G makes it superb out of the rough!

i was in your situation. i played for about 8 months with only 13 clubs in my bag until i finally decided i needed something to hit 190m as my 3i hits about 175 - 180 and my 3w hitts about 210.

i tried a hybrid club, but just felt weird, i ended up getting a 5w. never looked back.

I have an MD Golf Hybrid 18 deg instead of 5 wood/2 iron and Nickent 20/23 deg to replace my 3/4 irons. However i rarely carry the 20 deg and get by carrying 12 clubs. I'm sure if i thought about it i could probably carry fewer.

I find the hybrids very easy to hit compared to the irons. I can't envisage changing back.
