No hand release, play it with "dead hands".

      Re: punch

Also, play the ball further back in the stance, favouring the weight on your left side. Make sure you take enough club; it is better to take no more than a three-quarter swing.

With the ball back and hands leading through impact (making sure the club face is square), the ball will explode nice and low.....

        Also,

club face at target and set up slightly open at address. Swing in line with your setup.

Need to know what each club does on the fly so you can choose the right club for the distance desired.

I try to have a very short follow through finishing with the club head very low. This works for me but am not sure if this is correct. Hope this helps

            Re: punch

For a punch shot, I have been told the following...

Ball a little back in stance, which delofts the club, so either choke down, abbreviate both backswing and the follow through or a little less club.

Unsure if opening stance was part of the advice I rec'd, is fading going to be a good thing, if anything I would have thought maybe closing the stance a little to give a slight in to out and hopefully a little draw to it would be preferable...

              Re: punch

The idea of slightly open stance is to get the ball to check quickly. So it hits the deck and one or two bounces later, stops. The shot is a consideration when close to the green (pitching length). I liken the shot to say tennis, hitting down and across the ball to create the side spin.

Yeah this and make sure you don't get handsy or only use the arms to get the club back. Rotate straight back with arms and hands one with the shoulder turn with a 1/2 to 3/4 backswing. Use more club if you need to go further rather than a longer back swing.
