I think he will now he has had a year to sort himself out. I do wish he would change his equiptment, I think it was Mickelson who first said he has poor equiptment.

I have no doubt that Tiger will win a Major, he's an absolute legend of the game... People write him out because he drops down only into the top 5 instead of one. He'll be up there again this year, and even if he isn't number one, he should be celebrated for being in the top 5 not for missing the top spot.

        Nope.

I am so tempted to buy him a AT&T call card so he call Butch. If he makes that call, give him 2 months and he'll be wining everything in sight.

Tiger's problem is driving. He swings too fast with the hips, literally jumping out the way instead of turning out the way. His shoulders and hands just can't catch up and he blocks or cuts it right. If he compensates, he pulls it left. Sound familiar??

Take a slo-mo of his swing and run it on some analysis software and you'll see how he 'jumps' left instead of turning to make a smooth transition!

Maybe Tiger could call me instead of Butch!?

Tiger will win the Masters or the Open (the real one where lowest score wins not that USGA arranged lesson in lucky bounces, survival and streaky putting).

The Masters because he wants to share the second place in the number of Green Jackets column and because he wants Phil to be the guy to put it on his back just like Faldo wanted Lyle to be the one to hand it over in 1989.

The Open because its the only one he hasn't won at least twice.

I think it would be silly to say he wont win a Major in 2005. He has as much of a chance as Choker Ern or Vijay. I would place more cash on Tiger reaching 9 than Els reaching 4. Els had the Masters in the palm of his hand but decided to play safe and post a score, do that and Phil will eat you up, if he gets the breaks, major or not. The Open was his for the taking but the very type of putt he hadn't missed all week went sliding by when it really counted.

I think Phil will probably trouser another one next year as well. His confidence took a hit all thanks to Captain Hal at the Ryder cup but the 59 the other week will have reminded him that he can go deeper than nearly all his contemporaries (to my memory, neither Tiger or Els have ever looked like breaking 60 in competition, and certainly never as easily as Mickleson).

My outside bet for a Major next season: Luke Donald. The last 3 months of the season have been the making of him and the Ryder cup boosted him further. I would say either Open or USPGA, depending on the length of the USPGA track.

Tiger definately has what it takes. No doubt. New coach, new set of tools, a new driver shaft - probably even new socks and shoes for 2005. I hope we do see the Tiger we knew.

Problem is: there are 5 or 6 guys who also have what it takes and then some!

When Tiger was beating the **** out of everyone in the world, they were behind his standard. At one point, Phil and Ernie didn't play all the events becuase Tiger had entered! They've picked up on Tiger's pace, matched him and a lot of them (Vijay, Phil, Ernie and maybe Retief) have over-and-above the standard Tiger set. Tiger is playing catch up now.

Don't read too much into Tiger's wins. Wins are wins, but they weren't full strength, full field events. See what happens in Hawaii early January and then we can all make a better judgement call.

I doubt we'll see the Slam again and I doubt we'll see Tiger will everything in sight ever again. I hope to be proved wrong but with so many seriously talented players now matching Tiger - it's going to take something spectacular from him.

He seemed to have all the right stuff in that pan-asain tourney late last year. I think he has what it takes - but so does anyone in the top 10. Now that he can go back to focusing on golf (albeit, Elin is a fantastic distraction) he'll be back in top form in no time.

Judging from recent form why wouldn't Tiger win a major.

He mightn't be as pumped up as we're use to but that will only take a couple more good finishes.
Still think he's the most feared golfer kicking around.
The guy has done it all and he can call up that experience anytime he wants, so yes he'll win a major this year maybe two

We have some of the best under 30's in the world, experience and time will see them clean up

I agree to an extent with what you are saying about the equiptment however a very valid componant is being missed, it is no the equiptment that made Tiger great it was Tiger, will he win a major in 2005, you bet hes ready for it last year there was a lot going on in the life of Tiger Woods and lets not forget who said Tiger would be even better once he marries, the great Jack Nicklaus!

You know, I think we are all missing a large part of the discussion here. I don't think "will Tiger win a major in 2005" has much to do with Tiger, I think its got more to do with the other contenders ...

                        - Phil is playing great ...
                        - Ernie lost out on all 4 majors and won't want that to happen again ...
                        - Vijay is number 1 and set new records in 2004 ...
                        - Anybody in the top 10/20 in the world is good enough to win a major ...
                        - The top 40 on the PGA Tour are all good enough and have the game ...

He has serious competition now whereas he didn't have that in his prime.

I rekon ... not this year he won't.

The hype used to be about Tiger, his swing, how far he hit the ball and how he was pumped up and pumped his fist, the red shirts ...
                        Now it's all different ...
NUFF SAID ... Tiger isn't the same Tiger.

I don't think that tiger will do it this year. He will be close(2nd or 3rd) but I feel that he just isn't the same player that he was earlier. Also I think that some the field has caught up to him or passed him or he has slipped down to them. Until tiger can control is drives for 4 rounds he won't win a major this year. I also feel that tiger's head has gotten too big for him and he is finding excusses why he isn't winning. The almighty Tiger can do no wrong...Sorry Tiger you won't win a major until you go back to the basics and come back down to earth.

Tiger changed the game with his run a few years ago, guy's used to be eating too many steak dinners and boozing it up and just were not athletes, (for the most part). Then along comes this kid in great shape just pounding the ball and destroying the un-prepared ilk of the pga tour. Now everyone has pulled up their socks and gotten in shape to survive, creating a large group of players that can win any week. Plus tiger has the family thing to deal with now and he's just one of the boy's not in a class of his own. I agree about the equipment all that nike stuff feels like garbage, pro combo's, blades, ignite 460 it's probably all coming out of a sweat shop in asia like everything else they make. Ironic isn't it an african american/asian who endorses a product that exploits his own people. If he does win a major good for him but it;s anyones game this year.

No way Tiger wins a major in 2005. He won't be in real contention on Sunday in any of them. Phil is WAY too hot to let Tiger play better than him, and did you see David Toms, Adam Scott, and how the rest of those guys played at the Accenture last week. Ernie is a choke artist that doesn't know how to handle a lead on Sunday, he will only win if it's a come from behind by a shot or two type thing. The only chance Tiger has of winning a major this year is if they let him in the LPGA. He can't make a 3 footer under pressure, and he hits less fairways than I do, and that's hard to do.
