If Tiger can overcome Mickleson at Doral then he must be back in the frame for a Major. It would be a major boost for him leading up to the Masters and go some way to rebuilding the status he held in previous years. Also this could lead to some nervous head turning from Singh, Els etc if they think he's awoken from his slumber. The Tiger aura was as much a part of his success as any technical advantages.

You know, I think we are all missing a large part of the discussion here. I don't think "will Tiger win a major in 2005" has much to do with Tiger, I think its got more to do with the other contenders ...

- Phil is playing great ...
- Ernie lost out on all 4 majors and won't want that to happen again ...
- Vijay is number 1 and set new records in 2004 ...
- Anybody in the top 10/20 in the world is good enough to win a major ...
- The top 40 on the PGA Tour are all good enough and have the game ...

He has serious competition now whereas he didn't have that in his prime.

I rekon ... not this year he won't.

The hype used to be about Tiger, his swing, how far he hit the ball and how he was pumped up and pumped his fist, the red shirts ...
Now it's all different ...

Thats great that phil is playing well. Anyone can have a good weekend of golf. Look at Steve Jones this weekend. Did you have him picked to be up there, i dont think so. Every one that didnt win missed out on the majors last year. Sure The Big Easy was so close, big deal. Maybe he is playing like Phil was, can't win. Get second, but cant win. Is Tiger in the top 10? Top 5? Nuff said. Is he one of the top 40 on tour? I think so...... This year now that tiger has a few more things settled hie will be able to bag one major, at least.
