  • Driver cracked

Playing the other day I noticed that my driver had developed a hairline crack across 3/4 of the width of the top / crown just before it meets the face.

Is this likely to be a design / manufacturing fault? Or to put it another way, how strong a case do I have for a free replacement?

Sounds like a crack at the weld to me.

Which means, it sounds like a warranty replacement to me!

You must be a beast if you've cracked your driver! Time to spend less time in the gym, Hercules!

              Hi bdbl.
Do you hit range balls with your driver?

One thing I never do,hit my driver at a golf range with very hard balls. At my driving range they have no range balls, mostly all pick-ups.

                Hmmm...

Have broken a cricket bat or two playing shots...

Have broken a tennis racquet or twenty, imitating one JP McEnroe...

Can't say as I've ever broken a driver...

Bench pressing 300 are we Robin...???

The best I've done is caved in the face, but the head was aluminum.

Kudo's for cracking one!! Probably a bad weld job. It happens.

I've caved a few in. Did two back to back in Memphis, 2 - 6* Zeider custom made Long drive heads. He wouldn't take them back and replace them.

Cracked the face and took a peice of metal out of an Ashton E3. Cliff replaced it No questions asked.

Welcome to the 800 lb gorilla club!!

Come one guys, Gollfbald's been away for a while but have the rest you actually read any of my posts?

Believe me, as someone who was ecstatic about his one and only 270 yd drive, is happy reaching 240 on a semi-regular basis and, as long it is playable, will pick up the tee and walk after a 220 yarder reasonably content, I know my limitations and a raw explosive high speed power is beyond them.

                      Y'all made me laugh though.***

Ah yes I do; and recently a little more than usual as I've had "driver problems" for years but after advise on here its been beginning to click so I've been working on getting it more consistent. I'd have thought the club should be designed to cope though as loads of range monkeys at place bang out bucket after bucket with the big stick.

OK, so I probably souldn't mention that I regularly fall just short of our 270y short par 4 6th hole with 3 iron then......

And, as I understood it, range balls are deliberately made "low compression" so as to limit the distance they fly...

Presumably lower compression equates to "harder" which could equate to those who bench press 300 cracking drivers when regularly hitting range balls...

                        Or not...???

                        Cheers

                          Sighs in envy

Mind you, keeping the universe in balance, perhaps I shouldn't mention that my last round only included 28 putts (and I definitely won't mention the other 60 shots ).

I suspect that we'd make one helluva a golfer between us

I think - especially in these modern days of technological extremities - range balls are very much a necessity at many ranges.

The harder, heavier ball carries a shorter distance, and allows for smaller ranges. "Real" golf balls at our range, would leave it almost 100 meters short.
