  • refurbishing wood soleplate

Hi, there are several methods of refinishing a soleplate of a wood with thru-bore shaft, as I have discovered from researching on the net. It sounds as if the process is the same for any metal refinishing, whether it be a golf clubhead or other metal object. But I just want to confirm what method people use here on the forums?

Various sites recommend the use of a Shurebrite, Scotchbrite or nylon wheel to retain the satin look and feel. Do all three of these do the same job? I guess additional sanding prior to finishing is required to remove the scratches - what is recommended here? Hireko recommend a "metal finishing wheel" but what is this exactly? Are there any suitable sanding wheels or should it be best doing it by hand?

    Thanks

    Re: refurbishing wood soleplate

There are generally 2 looks - satin (scotchbrite wheel) and mirror (stitched buffing wheel and rouges).

If you don't have buffing wheels, some 1200 grit sandpaper (wet sandpaper) and some #000 (very fine) steel wool will get it done. You can even use a buffing wax on the sole to really shine it up!
