  • Cobra S9-1 Pro Deep Driver

Every golf company had a demo day at my range the other day and I really couldn't tell a huge difference between most companies. Some drivers were painful to my ears they were so loud and high pitched, but most were "normal" loud. I haven't bought a new driver in about 7 years so the new technologies out there are pretty neat. The fact that some heads can be taken off and swapped out or biased open/closed ect. It was a fun day.

Then I hit a Cobra S9-1 Pro Deep driver. It had a black face. It has the coolest sounding impact I have ever heard. More like a dunk (vs. a tink), very quiet, almost silenced noise, I just love it. The guy was saying it is made of some carbon composite instead of the usual titanium. I am not sure if that was the cause for the "silencer" or if it was some other kind of technology they had going on.

My quesition is if any other company makes any club heads that sound like that? I love my current graffalloy blue shaft and refuse to part with it, but I would love to find another company that made a club with that type of material face on it or if anyone knows where one can buy a cobra S9-1 club head only?

    Thanks for your help/time.

    Hi lgskywalker,

I think all the composite faced clubs sound the same. I used to have the old Yonex AD200 (?) and also the first Callaway solid composite driver and they had the "tunk" sound. I guess the ones that are composite with titanium faces like Callaway FT-1 and Cleveland Comp would not sound the same.

do you know a place that just sells the club heads?

I know golf smith sells just the heads of certain brands, but not of any carbon ones I could find.

You could check out GolfWorks also. There are many golf components companies. Just google.

Thanks, I have tried google, golfworks and golfsmith. I am really not sure what I am looking for though.

I get no results for carbon faced driver club heads (in any brand) I cannot find just the club head of the s9-1 anywhere. I have tried carbon composite and black faced driver heads.

I am thinking I won't be able to find any black faced heads like that.

But if anyone with anymoer know-how than me could, it would be appreaciated.

            Hi lgskywalker37,

Are you absolutely sure the Cobra has a carbon composite face?

Most CC driver, such as Callaway Fusion and FTIQ, Yonex Nanospeed I, Cleveland Comp, etc. have a wraparound metal (usually titanium face. The sound will still be deadened by the CC material backing. The reason for this is the original solid CC drivers such as Yonex AD200 and AD400 easily got the faces dinged. Paricularly with the fairway woods in those modwes, the leading edge would catch stones and would chip the faces. For that reason, I wonder if manu's have stopped making those types.

I looked at the Golfsmith and GolfWorks catalogues and they do have clone models of these bi and tri material CC drivers. But they have the metal faces as the original big name clubs. Go to clubheads and anything that looks black or says multimaterial or bi or tri material are the ones. The descriptions say CC with titanium faces.

http://www.golfsmith.com/products/CO...ro_Deep_Driver is a picture of the driver I used. I asked the salesman if the driver broke easily. He said he had a guy witha swing speed of 127 break on before and I an not quite there yet. If you zoom in and read the head it says "Carbon Composite" But searches for carbon compostie comes up with irons or putters.

But yea, I think anything that looks black would work, but doing a search for black faced driver heads turns up nothing.

I will keep searching, thank for your help.

                Hi lgskywalker37,

Sorry, but why are you hung up on black face?

If it is a black paint finish, it will look like a mess with the ball marks and the occasional stones kicked up on the face when you skim the turf.

                I'm just wondering.

                Good luck,

                Ted

Re: Cobra S9-1 Pro Deep Driver

It did look nice.... but the main reason is I thought it was the material they used that made it black and that was the material that had the sileced impact.

If it was just paint, then I don't care, I just like the impact sound and feel.

I guess next time they have a demo day I will have to hit every club untill I find one that is just like that.... And then try to find where they sell just teh club head online. That is the more difficult task I think, finding just the club head, if cobra sold just the club head then I wouldn't be having this convo.
