  • 1 iron clubs

    Hi guys,

What do you guys think of this idea? Do you see any merit it them?

Would like to hear your comments, especially anyone who has tried them.

    Re: 1 iron clubs

Great idea - really drives home one address and ball position.

The only downside is that you have to use either a) 1iron golf clubs, b) Purefit iMatch SL heads, or c) find some old Tommy Armour EQL clubs.

The reason single length doesn't work with the majority of clubs is that the headweights vary (which vary swingweight/MOI) and that the lie angles are varied - and most heads simply won't bend enough to get you equal.

If you find a head design you like, the alternative is True Length Technology - same ball position (with MOI matched clubs) and same stable, athletic address position.

I've got TLT clubs and I've got a set of the 1 iron golf clubs; and have had a set of both the EQL and iMatch SL clubs.

    I game the TLT clubs.

      what idea? using 1irons?

as a holiday golfer, the last 8 years or so, I hardly bring out my Big Bertha driver, ( don't even have other woods), but prefer instead teeing off with my 1 iron,a nice cavity back, with R-flex shaft, (shaft length -1/2") which to me is just another iron, which I can draw and fade, and especially in the wind , can be hit with a nice low trajectory. don't get me wrong I am not a low handicapper, just used to be ordinary 22, but it can give me some length of over 200 yds.

I think they are talking about a set of clubs all with the same length shaft.

I haven't tried the Pure Fit iMatch's (last I saw from Tim, they are out of production until the spring).

However, I do have a set of the 1irons. I swapped out the shafts for some Dynamic Gold SL X-100s with Sensicore and put on my usual grips, but overall I like the irons a lot and my iron play (and also chipping since I like to use different clubs around the green) is much more consistent than ever before.

I wrote a more detailed review about them here:

            Hi Brian
            your spot on.
its using the same shaft length for the all the irons.
so you body is in the same stance for every iron.
it seems to work better for the higher handicap players.
            cheers
            Bill

Very interesting. Iron play has been my Achilles heel since I started golf (see previous messages). This could be the answer. I'm not too bothered about loosing a bit of length if it means I gain accuracy. I've struggled with accuracy and consistency, only very rarely getting it right.

I may well try the 1irons out, although I'll have to save up for a bit....still if i can shave some shots off my score it'll be well worth it.

              Thanks

Contrary to popular belief, there's no length lost with either 1 irons or TLT. It's more than made up for with better, more consistent ball striking.
