  • Driver shaft 50g vs 70g

So i bought a new driver towards the end of last year, Cobra L5V. Came with a diamana red 50g shaft mid kick and i chose a stiff. My swing speed 95-100. I have been playing allot since Jan and have been struggling no end with a irritating fade about 3/4 into the balls flight. I was convinced it was because the shaft was so light, I could not feel the head through impact thus had no control. I swapped in a aldila vs proto stiff 70g and boy what a diff. bang down the fairway 90% of the time, approx 230m with range balls.
My question is... WHY? Is it the burlier shaft holding the flex better or the fact that the aldila is a low-mid kick and the diamana a mid kick? I know kick usually only effects lanch?

    Thanks

Two different shafts, two different profiles, two different swingweights/MOI values.

As a general rule, a heavier shaft moves the path to the inside while a lighter shaft moves it outside.

You may have simply fixed your path via your reshaft.

Thanks for the reply, thats interesting, have not heard of that effect from a heavier shaft, but makes sense.

So does that mean that a heavier shaft you would tend to hook the ball while a lighter one slice or is it vice versa

Given the same face angle to target, yes. A lighter shaft allows for more hand and arm manipulation, and most golfers start coming over the top with a lighter shaft.
