  • Shaft Length question

I recently went to a callaway fitting center and was fitted for irons and a driver. Im 6 5 and wrist to floor is close to 38in. The club fitter had me hit 1/2 in over, 1in over, and 2in over. I got the best numbers with the 2in over 6iron and 2 degrees upright. I have to say im a little worried about going that long. Just looking for some insight into if I should go ahead and commit to a new set with these stats. Any help will be very much appreciated.

    Thx,

    Re: Shaft Length question

I like that suggestion for a guy with a 38" WTF. It may be a touch long IMO, but you should be OK.

Just make sure you go up a flex or two to make up for the extra length.

Well Im already in 6.5 project X, should i go to 7.0? That sounds pretty stiff. Being lefthanded and this tall doesnt give me much opportunity to try much. This will be the third set ill be trying since last summer, but the first since actually getting a fairly thorough fitting, before it was just me guessing, still kinda makes me a little slow to pull the trigger.

Im 1 handicap, swing speed 112, ball speed low 160s, longish steep homemade swing. I know part of my issue is related to my swing, but Ive never felt confident that I have the correct custom set that fits my body type. I have always had toe deep divots. The callaway guy said the computer had my swingpath through the ball from the inside. The 2in over 2 degrees up I think had the club soled good at impact. He also said 1 degree strong to help off set the extra height of shots with longer shaft. just want a set that works. Thx for the reply.

        It should be good.

If you're playing a standard set at 6.5 adding the extra length will have the shafts playing effectively weaker. If 6.5 was the recommended flex, then the builder should be accounting for this and starting the build with something stiffer (so that it works out to 6.5). Either way - you need to start stiffer with the raw shaft as the length will soften it.
