  • Swing Weight/ Shaft Extension

    Hi from North Carolina!
I plan to extend my R7 irons about 3/4"
I have always felt they felt too light as is (previously used forged blades).

While simply extending the shafts will raise the swing weight 2-3 points, would I be better off going with a lighter extender to increase the "heaviness" of the club? (i.e., aluminum vs steel)

    Thanks

A bit off the subject but just FYI, don't use the plastic extenders-with a hard swing they'll break off. Stick with 'metal' ones...Wil

Why would you want to INCREASE the length, when WEIGHT is your issue?

Increasing the length will require you to get adjusted to a longer length, it will throw off you lie angle and change flex.

Increasing the club length will make a minor difference in the weight, but as previously posted, could seriously impact your swing and timing. If your main goal is simply to increase the club-head weight then I would suggest lead tape in the club-head cavity (looks terrible but works great). I would not suggest adding lead powder down the shaft as it will raise the vertical center of gravity of the club-head and move the horizontal center of gravity towards the heel.
