  • Junior club question

I would like to get into club making as a hobby because I just love the sport, everything about it, and would love to make some clubs for my children. The question I have is:
Can you put a junior shaft into a regular head?
It is easy to find junior shafts but not easy to find the heads. I found some but they cost more than regular adult heads. I know I can buy a set probably cheaper but I think it would be fun to build them.

    Re: Junior club question

While you can put junior shafts into regular heads, it defeats the purpose of junior clubs as the heads will be far too heavy for your junior.

The point to junior heads is that they're lighter - and so easier for smaller bodies to manipulate.

      thanks lowpost.
another question. what about teen clubs? do they have junior, teen, or regular heads? my son is 8 but he is as big and tall as a 12 year old. what is the difference in teen and junior clubs besides a full set of irons?

        Re: Junior club question

I've never heard of "teen" clubs, but would suspect that they're either regular heads with super light weight shafts or junior heads with regular shafts.

As a fitter, my concern isn't age, it's ability. And if you can't swing a 254g head with a 130g shaft because it's too heavy, the job is to find a head and shaft you can swing. For most children, it's the lightweight heads and shafts.

If your kid has the size and strength of a 12 year old, fit him as such. I'd likely still use junior heads because of their lighter weight.

thanks lowpost. i guess i will probably get junior heads with a ladies or senior flex shaft. i don't think the junior shafts will be long enough.

            hi Ben
would graphite shafts be more useful to the younger golfer as the clubs are often lighter but sometimes longer in the shaft.
            just a thought.
            Cheers
