Can you post the link? For that price I'd buy a backup!

Me too! I have the standard edition model, without the spring loading attachment. I have always wanted the PRO edition but couldn't purchase one because he stopped making them after I was able to afford a more the more expensive model.

I just did a search for JB hydraulic shaft puller on eBay and there were not any listings. I think that the original poster is describing the Roberts Hydraulic shaft puller complete with the vise attachment. The Roberts puller does not have the pretensioning spring attachment that is so unique to the JB Pro hydraulic shaft puller.

Imitation is the highest form of flattery.

It's not quite a JB Pro - but it's still light years ahead of any screw-type puller.

          Nice score!

Sorry about that guys, I got so excited I didn't even pick the name difference, so it will be my own silly fault if it turns out to be no good. I will give it a good going over and review it. LowPost, I noted in my subsequent searches that you had been discussing one very much like the' roberts' a couple of years ago and posted on FGI forum, They look much the same from then to now. By the photos it just looks a little more tidy. fhann, I see it does not have the spring loading that the jb has. I wonder if that's a problem? I can't seem to find a jb sales site but there a lot of knock offs out there that I wouldn't touch.

The main differences between the JB pro and the model you're receiving are that the JB Pro has a pre-tensioner spring (a great tool to ensure you're not about to launch a head across the shop) and the JB Pro vise pads are better (the one coming on the Roberts have been known to slip, but a little kraft paper wrapped around the shaft solves slipping problems if any arise).

Just remember to put some tension on the head before heating - that way you know you're using the least amount of heat to pull the head. I don't think you'll have many (if any) problems with the Roberts.

JB had to pull his product as he was threatened with a lawsuit by Dick Weiss (of SST Pure fame) as Weiss has the patent on hydraulic shaft pullers. From what I understand, Weiss wasn't interested in royalties from JB - he simply wanted him done making his fantastic shaft pullers. Mr. Weiss' parents named him aptly, in my opinion.

They lurk in all walks of life , the ones that screw things up and make trouble for no other reason but because they can. What a dick.
