Is there a technical reason for the number and variety of ferrules on the market ?

    Re: Ferrules

I posted this because I have a handful of clubs I have been practising on. I finally got the confidence to do one for the bag and found I could salvage one ferrule, most were brittle and cracked. It is 1 inch long with one gold band and it is a .370. Unfortunately, I fitted it before discovering the problem. I would like to use some on its' mates, but try as I might I cannot find a supplier with this particular one. So is there a tech. reason, am I just not looking in the right place, am I going to have to change to 1/2 inch. ?

      Re: Ferrules

There are a various number of ferrules for the same reason there are a various number of clubheads - people like to look at different things.

      Two main points to remember:

On a steel shafted club, a ferrule is simply cosmetic.

On a graphite shafted club, the hosel should be coned (20 degree countersink) and a collared ferrule used to prevent shaft breaks at the hosel.

Length is rather immaterial (ie a 1/8" ferrule has no more function than a 1" ferrule) - although it's recommended to use a longer ferrule with a longer hosel, just because it looks nicer.
