Removing Lead Tape

I have an iron which has a strip of lead tape in the cavity and I want to remove it. Is this easy to do yourself?

Relatively. If you have access to a heat gun it makes it easier (as it weakens the adhesive). You may need a knife handy to start the peel (as you state the tape is in the cavity).
