Shaft flex question-fitters please help

After using stiff shafts for years, I am finding I am losing workability with driver as I am trying to swing easier and more fluid. I have been using fuji 353 stiff and was using fuji 757 stiff.
Would going to a regular flex in my driver allow me to work the ball better, any other options or shafts you recommend which would be more flexible/workable

Hi Mtibt,

The Fuji's are pretty hard rods mate, you need a lot of power to fully appreciate them. If you have choked back on your swing to increase accuracy and consistency then you will certainly have problems with shafts like those. I changed from a Stiff to a Regular driver shaft this year and I have seen an improvement in accuracy. You might find that a reg flex Fujikura or Graf Blue suit you better now. I would also suggest trying out one of the Harrison Striper shafts, they are really good quality sticks. The plus side being is they are very easy on the pocket as well.

You still cant beat the old Graf Prolite 35 though, a few tour players still use the Prolite so there cant be much wrong with them. You can get one off ebay, brand new still in the sleeve for under £30. A good club maker should take no more than £20 off you to fit it. I got one fitted to my 4 wood a couple of months ago and its every bit as good as the Graf Blue on my driver.

I would stop short of recommending a Regular shaft over a stiff for you though, some manufacturers regulars are almost as stiff as other manufacturers stiffs. You might find a Fujikura Reg flex is no different in feel and performance from a Harrison Stiff or a Prolite Stiff.

One more suggestion, not enough people recommend the True Temper EI70 shaft these days, its still a great shaft and like the Prolite is pretty good value.

I have read a lot lately about the importance of the shaft, and in particular, that it be of a flex that compliments your swing. I will be buying a Taylormade R7 soon, and I have been wondering about the shaft flex. My swing speed is about 110 mph, and my driver shafts are usually stiff - althought I have hit a friends R7, with a regular shaft, reasonably well. Is there a way to be tested to determine which shaft would be optimum for you.....kick point etc.

Finally, the Tayloremade r7s, are going for about $288.000 new around here - Toronto - do you think they will come down much more.... I have the R5 - and its a teriffic club the R7 is a little sweeter - though.

The answer is to hit demos on a launch monitor.

I believe the Custom Club Shop in Mississauga has one.
