  • Component suppliers in the UK.

Does anyone know of a decent component supplier in the UK who is willing to sell to amateur club builders?
I have tried Golfsmith but they insist you sit exams and gain diplomas (from themselves and at a price, surprise surprise) before they will sell to you directly.
Most of the online shaft suppliers want silly money for their stuff.
At the moment I import my stuff from the states but would really like a supplier closer to home as delivery times will be much better.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Thanks

I have been dealing with Golfsmith for about 15 years. Itold them I was considering starting a small business, club building and repair etc. Suggest you take same approach. It may be they have changed their policy but worth a try, best of luck, let me know how you make out..

I've already tried that as I was thinking about building for other people.
      No joy ,however.
They now insist you gain diplomas from them before they will sell.
Told me they were protecting their professional clients.
I think it's just a way to generate money for themselves and ensure people like myself have to pay inflated prices to a middle man.

like Another suggestion, give sales@dynacrafteurope.co.uk a try, I like their products , let them know you are a potential trade buyer.

It seems to me that Europeans take all their golf more seriously than in North America.

There are courses you cannot get on without a handicap card, you have to pass skill and competency tests, so it's no surprise that they have the same idioms when it comes to club building.

Like a friend of mine says: "It seems anyone with a truck and a ladder can call themselves a contractor."

Well, in North America, anyone with a hacksaw and epoxy can call themselves a club builder.

However, there are some certification bodies over here that add credential to your club building. It seems that Golfsmith Europe wants the people building their gear to have credentials, as well.

Try looking up Long Drivers of Europe if you want to try SMT offerings. SMTGolf.com will list their contact info.

As for shaft distributors, are the prices really so bad that you have to bring 'em in from the States? I'm sure Tim appreciates your business, however, I've noticed that the prices aren't so bad once you figure in taxes and duty to buy from a local.

Re: Component suppliers in the UK.

I have a UK supplier for my SMT clubheads who is very reasonable.
It''s mainly a shaft and consumables supplier that I'm looking for.
I'll continue to deal with MyOstrich as it still works out cheaper to import stuff even with custom tax.

I'm sure if I look hard enough someone over here is bound to want my money.

Wish it was like the US though.
You seem to have no end of component suppliers who are more than happy to deal with the public.

I now have a component supplier in the UK who is willing to deal with non golf pros who want to build clubs for others.

                Step forward DiamondGolf .

A breath of fresh air in an otherwise snobby market.

Re: Component suppliers in the UK.

                      They don't have a website.
I stumbled onto them via the dynacraft Europe website as they were the main supplier for the dynacraft range.
They now have their own range of stuff and are producing a catalogue which will be out in March.
I can send you the contact number if you wish.
I'm sure they will be more than happy to send you a brochure.
