  • The need for Custom made Clubs

Do you guys think there is a need for custom made clubs? My father-in-law and myself are thinking about making some clubs for people? I just wondering if there is a demand for them?

    hi mazzamouth
there is certainly a need for custom made clubs!
i started playing a couple of years ago and got some off the rack mizuno cavity back irons and they were good but i kept reading how custom fitted equipment was essential to enable you to play your best
i had a set of irons made a couple of months ago and the results are brilliant instilled real confidence in my game

Oh yes there is a big demand for custom-made clubs and club fitting. It could be a very interesting and rewarding career - I know a few club fitters.

Just stick with quality and reputable components and you'll be fine.

There will always be a need for custom clubs. Custom built clubs are usually the next step, after off the rack clubs in a golfer's journey to get the best they can out of their game. I build/tweak my own clubs as a hobby, and enjoy it tremendously. I would add that knowing how to fit a golfer to their own set of custom clubs is paramount. "Live hittting" visual assessment of a golfer's swing, and probaly more important, ball flights will always tell a club maker what is right, or wrong for their client. Custom clubs will never be able to fix a bad swing, or bad grip, so a successful club maker/fitter needs to know as much as possible about swinging theclub the correct way for their respective client. I'm late to the party, but love the conversation!

Yes, if you're going to be semi serious (or more) about your golf, get fitted clubs. If you're going to hack around a couple times a year, don't bother.

GJS has a good point that cannot be overlooked, however:

Equipment is not a magic bullet. It cannot give you Tiger's game.

Now, equipment (the right equipment) can certainly minimize your flaws. The wrong equipment can exacerbate your flaws, and get you making major swing changes to compensate for it, too.

Enjoy GTO. And get your clubs fit.
