For the guys that do a lot of club building, why not start using the word "Replica" instead of "clone" or "knockoff"? I'm going to start using that on all of my shop's advertising.
You're discussing the semantics of synonym usage? The obvious answer is connotation, my man.
If you're going to be selling Replicas, it certainly looks better to market them as such, versus marketing clones and knockoffs - both of which have cheap and low quality connotations.
Perhaps you can add 'authentic' to replicas to really class it up. I know of one outfit who goes so far as to brand their clones as their own. In other words, rather than Acer SV2's, they're called COMPANY SV2's.
I reference clones as 'affordable models'. I also steer folks to the higher end components. I hate dealing with **** components that are difficult to bend and are largely out of spec for loft, lie and weight. It's much more difficult to MOI a set when I have no choice but to use lead tape and tip weights to adjust weights - as opposed to hosel bore weights à la Wishon designs.
