For me, unless you can custom fit me for my *next* swing its not much use

Maybe your *next* swing would be like your previous swing if you weren't compensating for equipment that doesn't fit you?

Just a thought.

Wish I could get some custom fitting done, but I'm in one of the most baron places as far as instructors and fitters go.

But that assumes that I would be able to make a repeatable swing.
Surely I should be able to make a repeatable swing irrespective of the club?
It may be a repeated slice or hook but it should be repeatable.

I would guess that most people would setup with a different lie angle each time irrespective of the club being "fitted" to them or not.

Use what feels good, Ive never had had a snooker cue or dart custom fitted, I just found one I liked and used it.
(Obviously if you are at the extremes of something you will need some modification (tall, short etc)

Definitely NOT placebo.

If it was a worthless endeavour, then no pro would bother.

For a fellow like Gree, I would put you into a set built with TrueLength Technology.

Would we all agree that there is an optimum static position from which to start the golf swing? (Biomechanics does).

Would we all agree that it's a personal thing - this optimum position?

Then why not get clubs fit to this optimum position?

If you are out of balance, your body will fight to keep itself in balance. Try it while you swing. You'll waste energy trying to stay balanced - energy that could otherwise be used for swinging the club.

If you start outside this optimum athletic position, then you will fight against yourself to keep yourself there while you swing.

Even buying off the rack, OEM's are trying to 'custom fit' their 'ideal golfer'. So as long as you fit that profile, great. Otherwise, you waste energy trying to swing clubs that don't fit.

I had a guy in the other day complaining about how he bought these used clubs while in Florida, but now his swing feels bad and he has trouble hitting them. He says he was going to get them shortened or flattened, but never got around to it. He complains that he's too upright at address, and his hands feel too close. We bent his irons 4° flat. He's back to a comfortable stance (close to optimal) and is hitting the ball better.

Fit your clubs to your swing and stance, or fit your swing and stance to your clubs. It's up to you.

Custom fitting is a must! I had my last set of irons adjusted for myself with lie angle but didn't get the full works! My new irons were custom fitted for me and are 1/2" longer and 2* upright! If your clubs are say too flat for you, then the toe of the club strikes the ground and this leads to the clubface opening! (due to the drag of the toe on the ground it will twist slightly in your hands)! even if this just opens the face by 1* over a 200 yard shot that will lead to a miss of 3.5 yards to the right of the green under perfect conditions which could be the difference between a birdie and a par or worse!!!

Custom fitting helps you play your best golf regardless of handicap!!!

Who should do the custom fitting....

I am convinced that custom fitting is the way to go. The majority of my clubs are a stiff flex some are regular, and the compensations are every where in between.

I have been reading about the process of custom fitting - specifically for TaylorMade and Callaway - I own clubs for the latter but Taylormade seems to have a kick *ss fitting system. I will let you be the judge - by the way, the fitting for TaylorMade is $250.00 - I think you hit all of your clubs - with five balls - and the process lasts approx 2 hrs. For Callaway - you bring two clubs and the cost is $50.00 - or if you are in Canada, any way, you can go to GolfTown and have them do it. For something this important you don't want to be too stingy.

I am just starting to golf and my wife is buying me a set of clevelands for our anniversary. I know that most say to get the clubs fitted, but if i do, will a progressively improved swing mean that I have to get them fitted again as my swing changes for the better?

having the lie checked on say a 5 iron does not mean that it will be the same lie for the rest of the irons. Many pros have there short irons more upright there middle irons normal lie and there long irons flatter. the reason they do this is the same reason that true length tech works.
if you ever go and get a full fitting for clubs then you will see the difference on the launch monitor as the fitter adjusts the club to get the best launch angle and best spin rate for your swing. that the main point of getting fitted is to have the clubs match your swing so you get the best out of what you have in your hands. picking clubs of a shelf and then adjusting your swing to them do work for some but make it a lot harder for others to play well.
i have been playing pings since the 70s and fully believe i have the best clubs in my hands every time i play and that fills me with confidence in my clubs.
you will never see me tossing my clubs about like some other and blaming there clubs every time they hit a bad shot.
if you get fitted, then if you hit a bad shot it you know its your swing not your clubs and that helps your game in the long term.
how many guys get fitted for a driver? not many and after a few months are looking for a diffrent driver. no confidence in the club.
i have yet to meet a guy that has been fitted for clubs and has said it was a waste of time doing it.

Would you say, though, that you have to get to a certain skill level before someone can successfully fit your clubs?
