I go there every year and will be there End if July for 2 weeks. What do you want to know? You want cheap or expensive really nice courses? Packages are usually the best bang for the $ if you plan on 5 or more days. Getting times early is the best, but hard to get unless you plan way ahead (months in advance), it gets really hot and humid in the mid day. There are about 130 courses within an hour's drive of each other, so it can be overwhelming to pick. Packages usually keep you in their "Preferred" groups, which are all good, but sometimes leaves out a gem or two you might want to plurge on. But this all depends on your length of stay, how far out you plan, and your desire to play quality.

      Greg,

I'm looking for a cheaper course this year, I'm taking my wife for her first time, and I'm not good enough to justify playing a real expensive course.

I've looked into golf packages but did not have enough time to book one before we go.

      What would you suggest?

Have you ever played Eastport while you were there?

No, never played Eastport. But, if this is a cheap solution, and it's your wife's first time, look at starting her at a par-3 course after a good 30-60 minutes at the range before teeing off. IF she gets going and lokes it, upgrade to an executive the next day. So this solution is usually available to the day before to call for times.

        Par 3's:

        Cane Patch
        7201 N Kings Hwy
        Myrtle Beach, SC 29572
        (843) 315-0301

        Midway
        812 N Ocean Blvd
        Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
        (843) 913-5335

        Countryside
        2778 Lees Landing Cir
        Conway, SC 29526
        (843) 347-0810

Harbour View Executive Par 3 & Driving Range
        1800 S Highway 17
        Murrells Inlet, SC 29576
        (843) 249-9117

Myrtle Beach National. They have 3, West, South and the Kings North! Play the King, it is a great test by Palmer. Otherwise play the West if you want an easier track. Don't forget to bring a lot of balls, there are water shots on just about every hole. One hole on the King, is called the "Gambler"...Par 5 with a island to drive to, from there it's 175 in, otherwise you play it long to the right with still lots of water to contend with.
