I wish I knew why all of a sudden ever shot I hit I know it going to be a terrible shot.. I started playing golf with a friend, he has real bad knees and plays like it. I Seem to play to his level.. I can't get my game back now even when I play with others.. I hit left off the tee most times. I seem to always leave my second shot short and even my putting went South. I am about to quit playing I am so frustrated with my game.. Where do I start without lessons..

At the range...taking a step back and rebuilding confidence. Start out with short irons for 1 hour. Just focus on contact. Not distance, or direction. Just pure contact. No shatter in the hands, not hitting behind it too much or too thin...just solid easy shots. There's nothing like a solid shot in the loins to make everything come back into focus.

Then, once you have something to work from, take a range of different shots 2-3 at a time. Hit a driver...if you liked it, hit the 7i. Then go to the 3w and hit a SW. Mix it up. If you mess up a shot, hit 1 or 2 more to get the confidence back. You want to practice under playing conditions. So pick out spots, go through the routine, and evaluate your play. This is the best way to regain your swing where it counts...on the course.

It is very easy to get caught up in others play (or lack of) and it can directly effect your play. Make sure that you put separation in getting too involved in helping someone else who plays below your level, like you owe it to them to make them play better on every shot. Unless they are paying you to teach them, leave them to figure it out for themselves. Enjoy their company and conversation, but if it gets to where they are constantly asking for advice, let them know you are just not sure. This should allow you to focus on you.

Most importantley do not give up.The world is full of people who hit a real rough patch and give up this wonderfull game.Ever noticed how many near new clubs on E bay.You have been given good advice. I would just say try to put a bad shot out of your mind and get on with the next.I sing to myself to stop the head chatter.
          Good Luck

Thanks, Peter.. I already hit a few balls trying Greg,s advice. I enjoyed hitting the short irons. I hit a few buckets of balls before I moved on the the longer clubs. Its coming back slowly. My aim is so much better too..Still hit a few left but in time I should be ok.. I promise I won't stop playing golf.. It really is a wonderful game but at times I lose it. Next time my game heads south I'll go back to range and start from square one.. You and Greg were Great help.. God Bless
