Does anyone have fitness programs for golf that they use or anyone else uses??

I am trying to start a golf workout for myself and was wondering how often, how many reps, and what weight to do the excercises given in the gym section as well as any other excersises people use!

    thanks

I suggest one of 2 things:

    1. subscribe to golf-trainer.com. Mike Pederson who runs the site is a golf fitness specialist.
    2. buy a book on Amazon.com called "Get Fit for Golf". It's a comprehensive book but easy to navigate and excellent content with various levels of fitness with routines and pictures.

Hunt up The Golfers Two Minute Workout by Pete Sisco.

Fantastic results in minimum time (no BS).

Dont laugh but log onto www.muscle-fitness.com and check out the exercises. As long as you can get past the superfreak physiques some of the exercises are no nonsense practical strength builders. There are also a lot of good excercises on www.thegolfdiet.com their stuff is pretty good too and its an ok site, its very new so some parts of it are still under construction but its worth a look as it is.

For everyone I think it is important to keep ones "torso" in good condition. (Stomeck, back, hips). And the the inner abs.

          Check different Pilates programs.

I made my own workout after searching some examples from internet, - but I have some experience in Method Putkisto and martial arts - and a Msc in PE. (So there are other programs that concentrates on mid body, too - not only Pilates, but Pilates seems to be IN now.)

After I have my mid section strong and flexible, I will focus on legs. That is where the power comes for a golf swing. Torso needs to be strong to keep the swing in shape.

Here is just one link. http://www.lhj.com/lhj/category.jhtm...es_Pilates.xml

          google for more

            Re: Golf fitness programs

I do a few key things to stay in shape for golf.

            1. I golf and always walk.
            2. I Stretch each day for less than 15 minutes.
            3. I rockclimb once every two weeks.

I feel, Rock climbing makes my core groups very strong. it adds wrist and forearm strength and stamina, and tones and streamlines from my shoulders to lower back. it even helps with balance and concentration and is cheaper than a gym membership.

Having fun this winter? its -13f here! in Denver and just keeps getting colder! im going coco for golfing season.

              Re: Golf fitness programs

I am currently using a book called The Ultimate guide to weight training for golf by Robert Price. It has a 4 month off-season program, preseason program, and finally a during the season program. Right now i am in the thrid week of the off season program. I would have to say its a decent buy right now, but I will have a better inclination in a few more weeks. If it seems appealing check it out. Good luck on finding your program!

And Rock climbing is good for your legs too.
It sounds like a very good way to keep in shape for golf. To exercise muscles it might be good to do it a little more often than oce a fortnight. Maybe 2 - 3 times a week.

About the weather - here in Jyväskylä, Finland - I will go skiing today. It's from - 10 to - 14 C today. A very nice weather for skiing.

Here is one interesting program. Check it. I like the approach - It's a life time change - not just a 3 month program.

                    Re: Golf fitness programs

This is the best i've found...I'm in the middle of the 12+ week "Core Performance" workout plan from Mark Verstegen. Book can be found on Amazon or his website www.coreperformance.com ...

Core Performance shows you how to use your core to transform your body and your life, turn back the clock, speed up your metabolism, trim your waistline, build muscle, and gain boundless energy. More than a workout routine, Mark's 12-week, comprehensive program reveals the athlete that has always been inside of you.

The Core Program shows you how to develop balanced fitness - strength, muscle mass, flexibility, power, and endurance - without overemphasizing or shortchanging any component. It shows you how to recover from workouts so you get leaner and stronger when everyone else is just getting tired.
