  • Help out a Kid!!!!!

ok, im 15, and im 5ft. 10-11inch. and 140 lbs. so im very skinny, i really need more strength cause id like to hit my drives around 280 and only hit them around 240. I already have great flexibility i just need strength cause im very weak, what kind of stuff should i do without getting to bulky, like to be around 160lbs.

I'm curious as to why more 15/16 year olds figure that they need to get stronger. Perfect your swing as much as you can, and see what's going on when you're 18. That said...

My first advice, regardless of age, is to inspect your swing. How much do you miss the middle of your driver face by? 1/4" off center translates into 5-7 lost yards. So, you could lose 20 yards by being 1" off center.

Secondly, if you want to get stronger, you have to weight train. I'm not sure what doogkie is saying (I don't understand carb loading when you're trying to build muscle). YOU DO NOT WANT TO BULK UP. The big thing is that while you're putting on muscle (getting stronger), you want to maintain your flexibility.

well, im told i have a great swing and i hit it straight so id guess 1/4 inch. but still, thats like 7 yards. Also, what training should i do, i never really lifted weights before.

I'm not a fan of training 'sport specific' muscles necessarily, because you need muscular balance, IMO.

Look for a book by Peter Sisco called 'The Golfer's Two-Minute Workout'.

some simple things you can try are push ups, sit ups, legs squats and stretching - bascially all of the stuff they do on the physical fittness tests in school. running is good to build up endurance and leg muscles. swining with a weight golf club can be helpfull and get on of those devices to squeeze and build up your grip strength.

The other thing you can use for squeezing is a tennis ball. Some very good insignificant-weight bearing exercises, msklar!
