  • US Open and Men's Fitness

I just had to comment one the shape of a lot of pro golfers. Just something I noticed after the cut.

It seemed most of the players that made the cut seemed to be carrying around a lot of extra weight. At least the ones that got TV coverage.

Phil, Ferrie, Duval, Singh, Monty, Tim Herron, Jiminez (to some extent) I got 2 words for these people "Man Boobs".

I guess what this tells me, as long as you have strength and flexibility you can carry around 50 extra pounds.

Most of the tour players have a travelling personal trainer with them, but that doesn't mean they eat the best.

I'm not sure about Mickelson...he's looking chunkier this year, but he is the small percent of the entire golfing population that has been one of the best players in the world, fitness or no fitness.

I think he has a trainer, but obviously nutrition or cardio is not part of the program. "Man boobs" is right on with this example. But hey, he's number one of the money list, so he's laughing all the way to the bank.

It's not always the outer appearance. A golfer can be fit from a strength and flexibility standpoint, but unfortunately still be overweight, which can have future health issues such as adult-onset diabetes and other debilitating diseases.
