I don't care what side any of you play on unless it's the left. I don't care about VJ or anyone else. I'm searching for lefties and the lefty point of view on how the game is played. Unless it's discussed from the left side of the ball, I'm not interested.

I did swing ball bat from the left side but I was good enough to be a switch-hitter (both sides of the plate). My dominant side is my right but my strong batting side and golf side is the left. My right arm is stronger than my left so I use a LOT of my right arm in my swing and this sometimes makes my shots inconsistent in direction. I remember Hogan said smash hell out of the ball with the lead arm as the trailing arm just goes along for the ride. This doesn't work for us amatures unless we have Hogans fantastic timing. I don't.

Hogan said both in his book the 5 fundamentals, i think you take it as if its in the back swing as its then his meaning of the trailing arm goes along for the ride and in the start of the down swing, but as you get into the impact zone it is where he talks about powering through the ball that he said about wishing he had three right arms. i think the last passage was a bit tongue in cheek as it went against what he said in the rest of the book.
Hogan did say "do as i say and not as i do," so he could of been referring to how he does it and how an armature should do it.
but your right as he did say both things.

New to the site. But thought I would say a quick hello.

Right handed here, but play left. You can thank hockey for that.

Up here in the Great White North, a lot of right handed people play left. What ever feels most natural to you I guess.

Well...I'm a lefty and I swing left handed. Instruction and equipment are hard to find. I have gotten used to the instruction. I just reverse everything. It's lack of equipment that chaps my butt. I had some old ghetto lefty clubs a friend gave me and when I wanted to get me a decent beginner set...I had to settle for what I could find. As for how the lefty game is played...not so well if it's played by me Seriously it shouldn't matter which hand you play. It's all the same. As is with the equipment I think it may be so with course design. Lefties catch a break when the fairway break left seeing as we tend to slice left. I seem to only slice left though when it's in the trees. When I tried to use it to my advantage...the damn thing would go straight. I finally decided that consistently straight was the way to go. I 'bout got that down pretty good now. I keep hearing that a slight draw is favorable but I don't know why. Can anyone answer that?

The draw alludes to an inside to square path with a square to closing face - the 'move' of a better golfer.

As for lefty gear, IMO the answer for beginners is the Wishon 770CFE iron set (and 785HF's for hybrids). Great, forgiving irons - and lefthanded!

I'm left handed, and taught myself years ago to play golf right handed.

Thanks for the info LP42. I looked into those clubs but man it was impossible to get a price off the net. The look pretty decent...and expensive. I'm going to give them a call and see where I can go and get my hands on one. I see a lot of righties checking out each others clubs on the course. That's another problem being a lefty. I play with guys that have Bertha's and Pings and such but I can't try them out Hey where do you go to get your swing speed clocked? If you don't mind.
