  • Why does this produce a draw?

In an effort to hit up on the ball a bit more with the driver, I've taken to addressing the ball from 6 to 8 inches behind with the idea that the club will bottom out where I'm holding it then strike the ball on the upswing.
It's been working a treat with the added bonus of the occaisional slight draw.
Now, I can't draw the ball to save my life, so what's happening here?

Try hooking a few shots and see what happens before trying to draw it again...

I would guess you are staying behind the ball now. You where probably sliding forward ... naturally. The new setup has now moved your virtual image of the center of the swing back enough where you are getting the club around to square and in the draws, a bit shut.

with the center point further back you are hitting the ball later and the club is starting to close as you swing around your spine, the closing of the face add side spin and you have a draw.
        cheers

            hi Pnern
i use to but they don't make them any more, i use to use the two color balls. was one of the only balls i use to use till it cut so bad or went out of shape i was force to replace it. been about 15 years since i have seen them but they were really good and the way they strobed in the air was easy to see them even when it was very gray. i would love some of the top makers to make two half color balls as they are easy to see in the air and it beats puting a line round the ball for putting.
if you know where you can get any let me know, the last time i saw one was on e-bay and they wanted £15 for one and it was not new.
was one of the best balls i ever used in my almost 40 years of golfing.
            cheers

Setting up with the driver back from the ball helps to keep your shoulders square or even slightly closed. This will promote a more in to out swing and the resulting draw.

When the ball is placed forward in the stance and the clubface aligned directly behind it at address your shoulders will be pulled open. Take a look at how Moe Norman addressed a ball, he always set his club well back from the ball so that he was setup square with his left arm and club perfectly aligned on plane.

I thought about it, but that just seems too easy ... and what is he going to do with a single ball ... lose it in the first water hazard that comes along (more irony than your playing ability Bill) or only use it on really safe holes so as not to lose it or the worse life ever for a golf ball to sit on a shelf.

Right now it is just a "funky" looking golf ball. Maybe we can make it more special ... "ball around the world" ... instead of travelling directly from me to Bill. Why not have it pass from GTOer to GTOer to get to Bill? What do you think?

I think I just officially "jacked" this thread ... sorry mariner.

i don't think I'd risk playing with it and your right it would sit on a little block of wood in my study, reminding me of just how great these balls were.
                        thanks

Bill doesn't lose balls, he doesn't miss fairways or greens so he wouldn't lose it.

Tried this method out today about 8 inches behind the ball, the first attempt hooked out of bounds with a little of tinkering I ended up with a slight draw placing the driver approx 5 inches behind the ball.
