how to get more closed at impact!! hips and shoulders soooo soooooooooooooooo open!!

  • how to get more closed at impact!! hips and shoulders soooo soooooooooooooooo open!!

    my shoulders and hips are really really open at impact meaning the only thing i can do is swing left and hit pull draws on pull cuts.
    even when i try and stop my shoulders from unwinding in the downswing they still unwind. would more slide help as i dont have much?

    I like being open into impact. If you are hooking and pulling, look to your hands and make sure they are not closing the face down too much. Try to leave the trailing wrist still cupped into impact.

    i.e. Your body is the main source of power. Why would you ever want to inhibit that powerful move you have there? Adjust the little things like your hands and wrist and grip (if needed) to allow a big hip and shoulder drive through the ball.

      becua when im that open i can never start a ball like right of the target and draw it back as im so open so will swing really left.

        You want to be open at impact with your hips, and your shoulders can be anywhere from square to slightly open. Looks at the picture of the pros at impact below: (http://img366.imageshack.us/img366/7...timpactzi7.jpg)

          im well aware that the hips etc should be open but my hips and shoulders are both silly open! causing divots nice and left..etc.

            Looking at your video your lower body appears a little loose looking (the hips and knees). I'd recommend trying to setup with lower body a little taller with your hips in a higher position, and perhaps bending from the hip sockets a little more. In general more in a position like you see with Retief Goosen:

            (that should help you hit into a firm left side with the left hip in a slightly higher position at impact)

              Try keeping your lead foot square( no forward flare) or even pointing in a little and make sure your head stays behind the ball at impact. Do you get up on your trail toe early in the downswing? if so try to roll in your trail ankle and keep your heel grounded longer.

              These should keep your shoulders more square and prevent too much hip rotation causing you to spin out.

                my right foot is still no the floor at impact. i dont think they move enough laterally.

                  Its difficult to see from the video but look at all three things as they should help to stop you over rotating. The other thing to consider is connection where you work on keeping your arms in the middle of your chest through impact.

                    Most people would kill to be able to turn the hips and shoulders like that. I would look more to other things like grip and swing plane although your plane looks good perhaps a (less I think I meant) vertical plane would help out. Maybe your someone that needs a really weak grip. Could be as simple as that. But your swing certainly as I see it doesn't need wholesale changes.

                          i mean people woud like to get as open as me, but without hitting the slices!! that was a better swing than i normally do to be honest. not over the top...just slightly steep if anything. but you can see first movement down is my left shoulder like moving out.
                          i need a good practice tomorrow.

                            Greg is right as usual. Medici, quite simply this has nowt to do with axis tilt or shoulders etc, you are casting/flipping because of an overactive right hand. This is why you*think* you are having to swing left. I bet you hit some tops as well right?

                            You need to learn to get your hands out of the DS. Drag the cupped right wrist down into the ball. All I can see is a nice hip move and shoulder rotation so dont lose it!

                            Here's some things to try

                            1. Swing the club with the right hand only. At the top feel the cupped right wrist and use the hip bump and turn to pull that cupped right wrist down into the back of the ball. Let the body square the clubface, never the hands.

                            2. Once you feel comfortable with that concept hit some balls with your feet together and half swings only. Again feel the cupped right wrist and the hip bump lead that cupped right wrist/flat left wrist into impact. Feel the body turn squaring the clubface. Keep a nice light grip - the harder the grip the more likely you will want or feel you want to hit with the hands again. Note that the hip bump left will get you the axis tilt the manzella guys seem obsessed about - shame they forgot to tell you the real problem

                            3. From there widen your stance and lengthen your swing - bit by bit. Again its the body dragging those wrists down into the back of the ball - never a hit with the hands

                            You may actually find you hit pushes and blocks because you have to got used to stopping the turn through impact as you flash your hands through it. If thats the case keep the grip light and turn even more left - always be turning as they say

                            Try that and let us know how you go

                              i have never really made the hip bump, never been able to do it.

                              so your basically i need to keep my right wrist cupped alot more into impact.
