  • re: Standing Too Close To Ball

    Hi Jambalaya,

If you are having concerns about standing too close or too far away from the ball, get into your stance and set up so your left arm (for right handed golfers) hangs freely. Place the club into your left hand without moving your left arm. This is the natural placement and is the best place to start from.

The best technique you can use to find out where the ball should be positioned when first learning to take divots is to take a practice swing creating a divot. Have someone place your ball where your divot started. The idea behind taking a divot is to strike the ball first, then the ground. You will find that the shorter the club the farther back the ball will end up in your stance (3 iron about 1/2 between centre and front foot, 5/6 iron in the centre of your stance, pitching/sand wedge just inside your back foot.
