  • Natural Golf in UK

I've, finally, had to admit that l'm not able to make a full shoulder turn without putting severe stress on my lower back. Having suffered back problems over four decades, I need to find a compromise or, face the unhappy prospect of giving up the game.

From surfing the net and reading various articles, there seems to be a body of opinion that the golf swing of Moe Norman (Natural Golf) is far less stressful, on the lower back, than the orthodox method of swinging a golf club.

I live in the London area and wondered whether anyone knows of an instructor/school, in the South East, that teaches this Natural Golf method. It's something that I need to explore if I'm to continue playing.

You should also consider Jim Hardy's 2 plane swing approach. That also take the strain out of the low back. The book to get is "The plane truth for golfers".

      hi
i have found that an open stance puts less strain on the back, have a look at the Mindy Blake forum as Mindy only used a 3/4 swing.
you have Sandy Lyle with his 3/4 swing and he is still one of the longest hitter at 50.
      cheers

I think you refer to Jim Hardy's one plane swing?

I agree that there are other one plane swing systems and teachers and as another back sufferer I have found that a one plane swing certainly eases the strain.

          Thanks for he replies-all.

I've just found an article regarding Sandy Lyle's swing. Apparently, he has adopted the natural golf swing and will be promoting it at this year's British Open and European events. He will be wearing the NG logo on his shirts.

I did send an email to NG, in the US, yesterday, regarding teaching availability in the UK but, have not yet received a reply.

Any further feedback would be much appreciated

            Re: Natural Golf in UK

I had an email reply, earlier, from Natural Golf. The teacher nearest to me is based in NORWAY!!! Not really the answer I was hoping to receive. It's in Europe so, London mustn't be too far away. LOL

This company seems to have a serious gap in their marketing strategy. Their swing method is now being used and demonstrated by one of the most successful British golfers in the last 25 years and, yet, they haven't established teaching facilities, in the UK, to capitalise on this. IMHO; a huge mistake.
