  • HELP !! Loss of confidence/concentration

I am a 10 hcap golfer, & am going through a really tough period !.
I have a good swing, but due to my recent bad form, whilst playing my shots all i can focus on is .. am i swinging correctly ? are my arms swinging ? ... am i swinging fast .. i must look a novice .. etc etc !!.
What can i try to get my focus back & possibly battle through this awful period

    hi simon
if i feel my swing is off then i go back to basics, the fundamentals! once ive checked those i concentrate on grooving a nice smooth tempo

it surprising how quick our swings can get without noticing and then we are all out of sync!

    good luck

      Two things:

Take some swings with your feet together, it will reset tempo and balance.

Check how you are taking the club away. Taking it sharply inside so that you do not make a proper shoulder turn is one of the prime reasons that a swing suddenly goes to pieces.

        hi
like Slater and brain i would say go back to the basics and start by swing slow and build up the speed. work on hitting the ball in the sweet spot and don't swing faster till you can do that 8 times out of 10.
        cheers

Try playing a few rounds where you convince yourself you really don't give a monkeys. Still have your routine, but at the moment of truth, swing like you could'nt care if it went off the planet.

Playing off 10 you'd be surprised how good you are when you allow your skills out without getting in their way.

Many thanks for the tips, to all !!.
I do agree you can increase your swing speed without noticing.
Other members have always said i have great tempo, but when i play with longer hitters it is so easy to lose tempo when looking for that extra yaaaaard !!
            many thanks

Amen. My best rounds have come when I've played after a trip to the range where I couldn't hit water if I fell out of a boat. When you just step up and aim down the middle and swing free 'cause you don't know where it's goin', you tend to hit some OK shots. Nothing fantastic, but nothing absolutely horrid, either.

                Swampy,

I started playing better when I stopped worrying about how me and my swing looked.

I have come to realise, I will hit **** shots. I am learning to move on and prepare for the next one.

I am only disappointed in myself if I don't stick to my game plan.

Be committed. The results will come.

Yeah. There's a colloquialism around here when you're not hitting it all that well, you say you scr aped it around the course. Of course, the 'c word' is in there, so it gets deleted. S****ed. See? If you put 'hank' in there, it seems even worse!

Ain't this the truth. I find most of my problems lately related to taking the club inside with arms instead of in sync with the shoudlers. It is a killer.

my problems usually show up in my wedges- chunckinghtem- this spreads to all my irons. It is in my take-away- I tend to slide back laterally causing me to make contact an inch behind the ball causing the dreaded -CHUNK! I usually get my wife to go and watch and stand behind me and stop me in my swing if she see's me sliding. I then usually take a bucketful of balls and hit em correectly still I get my swing back in sinc.

I think this as well comes from trying to gain power too. Instead of just turning my body I try to "load" up and hammer it.
