  • Lead foot?

I wanted to get some thoughts on the lead foot. I noticed some old video where some guys heel would come off the ground on their take away. I was thinking about give this a shot perhaps it would help me generate a little more power from my lower half. What are some of your thoughts.
    Thanks,
    Cams

    HI Cams,

Lifting tends to have the opposite affect of what you want more power.

To use the lead foot for more power set up square then turn your toe slightly toward the target, this will restrict your backswing creating more power and also a good aid to shorten longer backswings, try it without a club you can feel the power build up.

    Hope this helps

      Re: Lead foot?

Jack Nicklaus, John Daley and Bobby Jones lifted their front heel in the backswing, it can be helpful to increase shoulder turn and keep the hips level, especially for seniors or those with poor flexibility. The important thing is to make sure you plant it back down firmly at the start of the downswing.

Sam Snead was the best at this.

I think it can help with tempo and aid stopping an OTT style move with the shoulders, as the first move would be to replant the heel (as per Brian's comment) rather than turn the shoulders.

Get's the lower half working early. All good!

It helps a bigger hip turn as well. All this baloney about restricting the hips as much as possibly is more damaging than constructive, in my opinion. Your hips are strong. Use them and turn them. If you flare your lead foot out, you can't over turn your hips without collapsing your lower posture.

A 45 degree hip turn is further round than most people think. I don't see a problem with it.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've been a baseball player most of my life, and this move reminded me of stride when you were batting. I'm just trying to max out my lower half so it doesn't feel like I have to try to swing out of my shoes to get the distance I want.
