Just an update on the swing changes discussed earlier in the thread, as you can see from the videos, it's still a work in progress. I got a bit tied up with thinking about trying to do too many changes at the one time. Researching the advice given earlier in the thread led me down other paths which confused me even more.

I've decided that I'm going to concentrate on trying to transfer my weight to the left side on the downswing then deal with the over-swinging and head moving issues etc later. I've only played one round of golf since i embarked on trying to change my swing, a nightmare 98. Hopefully It'll be worth it in the end though.

I've been trying to keep my head from moving back in the backswing and spinning the hips in the followthrough, I think I made some progress, still ongoing though.

I've posted this video with a few minutes worth of swings, apologies again for the quality.

I'm still trying to find a method of stopping myself from being too eager to "hit at the ball" as soon as my backswing finishes. I know the legs lead the downswing, then the hips, but I'm confused at what the shoulders do. I feel I don't have enough time to get to my left side because my top half is racing my bottom half. I'm thinking this might mean I'm casting the club. Any advice on this

I actually feel like I'm not far away from making some real progress with my swing, but I'm missing something fundamental.

I have said that your swing looks good and I still think it does. Don't get yourself paralysed with too many swing thoughts. You are correct that you should focus on tempo, you do seem in a hurry to hit the ball. Slow it down in the downswing and pull on the power just as your hands get near your right thigh. Think Smooooooooooth!

Thanks Brian, I might actually try and say smoooooth for the whole of the swing, it might stick in my head that i have to swing slower.

Just a quick question -At the start of the downswing, should I be rotating my shoulders towards the target, or should the hands kinda drop towards my right hip. I've kinda got a bit lost with all the videos and instructions I've been reading.

That's right, your swing does look good, just a little rushed from the top. If you must have a swing thought let it be TEMPO.

what are your results like? what are you trying to work on now? your swing looks real good.

Hi GG. The results at the range are that I'm striking the ball pretty well but I'm hitting 20 yard pull shots consistently. Previously I had too many swing thoughts going through my mind i.e. keep the head still, don't overswing, keep the arms in front of the chest etc. It seemed almost impossible to do them all in a split second. Long term I think these issues need to be addressed, but I'm thinking I should work on one thing at a time. Rushing the swing from the top seems to be something I've always done but been unable to work out how to slow down.

That's right, your swing does look good, just a little rushed from the top. If you must have a swing thought let it be TEMPO.

Hey TB, I went back and took a look at your newest swing video and noticed you have a bit of a reverse pivot. Your weight never gets behind the ball as you make your backswing and your head stays dead still. (contrary to popular belief you head should move some on the back swing).

You mentioned you felt as if you were casting the club. An improved pivot would help that a great deal, and you just have to have a good pivot to put any power into the swing.

Look at Tiger's posture just before the start down. His spine is tilted slightly away from the target and his head has move slightly to the left from address. This is the model you should be looking at.

This in addition to the proper amount of forearm rotation that we discussed earlier, is the key to your improvement.

Brian, thanx for the video. I really like shawn clement's teaching, he makes things simple to understand. The drill to try and hit a 75 yard 7 iron sounds interesting, surely that'll slow me down. I'll be at the range on Friday to try it out.

Hey JB thanx for the advice and the video. The Tiger video's amazing, it looks so effortless and controlled.

Good spot on the reverse pivot btw. I had been attempting to stop my head from moving in the backswing by trying to keep some weight on the left foot as per BenHogans advice earlier in the thread. As u say I've managed to reverse pivot, probably from overdoing the amount of weight I kept on my left foot.

My plan now is to work on slowing down the downswing only. If I can make some progress with that I'll work on the advice you guys have offered. One change at a time seems to be the way forward.

I don't see any right side squashing. I like to feel my left arm point to the right of the target or to 1 oclock as long as possible at the start of the downswing.

Sorry BH I never noticed your question. Yes i am hitting a ball in that video.

Your right with the video btw, I can see I'm reverse pivoting. I'm working hard on making changes to my swing, I'm hoping for some improvements/changes over the coming weeks. I've got the blisters to prove it.

and a folding chair. All three show the correct pivot motion...
At the top of the back swing hold you're shoulders and hips back...
drop you're right elbow into you're right front pocket...Notice the transition
to the left...;[This is first movement in the downswing with the right elbow following
closely behind]...The right leg will slant towards the target side...Drop the hands below
the hip...shaft parallel...90 degree angle with arm... drive the hands to the left leg...
hips and shoulders begin to square up wrist begin to uncock...Left leg still bowed...
This is where the left side opens up and supination squares the clubface...
Do this in slow motion...

Take a folding chair...place it to your side with the back against you're right leg
and the bottom of the chair leg against the right little toe.

It'll be angled away from you...this eliminates swaying...Your right leg will ride along the back of the chair...start you're DS
limiting as much lateral shift as possible...


Take a cardboard box and swing along the inside...
Make an impact bag from pillows or rags and learn to
trail the clubhead...Throw some tennis balls against the
wall where the ground meets...Notice how your shoulders
and hips respond...
In a nutshell it's pretty much like this with some difference's...
