I have just purchased the secret and have found it very good for my short game. My question is this, can this be used for the long game? Thanks.

A new highlight: Golfing the home course on Christmas Day.
I say it too often: If it's golf club shaped, you can play with it.
For the record, I'm a club doctor, not a swing doctor.
Re: Greg Norman`s Secret
Absolutely. I've recently gone back to practicing with it, as I've lost distance. It's simply reconfirmed for me that I'm still holding my angles well, I'm just not setting up properly.

Re: Greg Norman`s Secret
I should probably add that the flimsy instruction manual I have with it mentions that you can't really do a full swing with it (as TP noted, you can't really release the club fully), but I've gotten to what feels like a 3/4 finish with it on.

Re: Greg Norman`s Secret
Thanks guys. It really does wonders for the short game. It really helps me hold the angle. I have tried it for the long game but, as you have said, releasing is very difficult. But, all in all, I think it is a pretty good training aid.

Re: Greg Norman`s Secret
Some time ago I tried working my swing this way, holding the bow in the right wrist through impact and using body rotation to square the face. It was good for chips and pitches but completely destroyed my full swing by making me get my body ahead of my arms and create an open clubface that at best pushed the ball at worse created horrible shanks. It took a lot of hard work to get my release back.
keeping the left wrist flat and the right bowed is good but if you don't release as you come through you can ruin a full swing. Just my own experience of it.Last edited by BrianW; 08-09-2008, 10:53 PM.

Re: Greg Norman`s Secret
It's my understanding that The Secret will create a 'push' or 'block' release through impact - IOW, there's no hand action and no forearm rotation. It doesn't create a ton of speed, but requires much less timing than an active release.

Re: Greg Norman`s Secret
The part I don't understand is how can it be a secret when everybody knows about it. And not even a clear secret as to whether it can be applied to a full swing... It's old news (an old basic tip) anyway so how can it be Norman's?

Re: Greg Norman`s Secret
It's the name of the product that Norman had created to enforce the concept with hard plastic locking the hand into the position...that's all it was.
Forearm rotation and release work just fine with it on. Release of the hands in a vertical hinge rather then horizontal. Arms rotate as the shoulders rotate.
Body position should be behind the ball at impact -- not a slide that can cause pushes and even shanks.
Putting it on for the first time can cause quite a lot of adjustments to the setup -- depending on where were are coming from. So, expect several other changes in the setup and swing to accommodate.
From a training aid, it is meant to reinforce a concept. Once that concept is understood and applied, great things can happen to the swing. Readapting to your natural feel will be a marriage between feelings of extreme and comfort. It takes a while.

Re: Greg Norman`s Secret
hi greg
i believe it was Mindy Blake that invented the secret back in 1968 and Greg Norman took over the rights when he used the product in the 70s and his company marked when it took over the rights to the product and its been the Greg Norman secret since 1974 i think.
cheers
